U.S. GAO Seeking Veterans’ Perspectives
The U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) wants to hear veterans’ perspectives about the effectiveness of VA’s outreach efforts for its community care program. Through VA’s community care program, eligible veterans can receive health care from community (non-VA) providers under certain circumstances. Your input can help Congress and the VA understand how to better inform veterans about their eligibility for community care and the process for obtaining community care.

We are seeking veterans who receive care through the VA to participate in small group discussions about VA’s outreach efforts on community care. If you are interested in participating, click here. We ask that you respond by August 21, 2026. Thank you in advance for your time and assistance!

Tomah VA Medical Center officially has super users!
Super users are tech-savvy clinical staff who get extra training on the Federal EHR system so they can become on-the-ground experts. They know the new system inside and out and will be available to assist other staff who need help once we go live in January 2027. If our staff run into a problem ordering a test or looking up previous results, they can just ask a super user!

Have you received a survey from the Veterans Affairs (VA) and did not know if you should complete it and return? The answer to that question is YES!

VA looks for ways to improve your experience and increase overall satisfaction with your healthcare. One way to help is to fill out and return surveys VA sends you.

Survey of Hospital Experiences of Patients (SHEP) is sent to Veterans who had care in the inpatient or outpatient settings. SHEP gathers information about many parts of your care and experience. We use your feedback to find common topics for improvement.

If you have never filled out a survey, please consider doing so. Your voice matters, your experience matters, and we welcome your valuable feedback.

Big changes are coming for providers and staff at Tomah VA Medical Center! They will be learning a new electronic health record (EHR) system that will go live in January 2027.
In January and a few months after, you may notice longer wait times for walk-in services. If you need to be seen urgently, simply call or send a secure message to your primary care team and they will review and recommend. If you need to be seen for an urgent issue that is not a life-threatening emergency, please go to Tomah VA Urgent Care. Please remember, for life-threatening medical emergencies, always call 911 or proceed straight to the nearest emergency room.
