Remember! Summer sunshine can quickly heat up pavement, sidewalks, and sand enough to burn your pet’s paws.

If the ground feels too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for them to walk on comfortably. Try planning walks earlier in the morning or later in the evening, and remember to give your pets plenty of breaks and water during warm weather outings!

Never leave pets in a parked car during hot weather, even with the windows cracked. Temperatures inside a vehicle can rise dangerously fast and lead to heatstroke within minutes. Every year, hundreds of pets lose their lives due to being left in overheated cars.

If you cannot bring your pet inside with you, it’s safest to leave them at home where they can stay cool and comfortable. If you ever see a distressed or struggling pet left inside a hot car, call 911 immediately.
