Our umbrella-

Rural Addiction Prevention (RAP) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 2019 in response to the growing opioid epidemic and lack of prevention and recovery resources available in rural Alabama. Since its inception, RAP has remained committed to strengthening rural communities through evidence-based prevention, education, advocacy, and community engagement. Our mission is to empower individuals and communities by preventing substance use, expanding access to recovery resources, and building healthier futures close to home.

Over the past several years, RAP has successfully implemented prevention initiatives throughout Crenshaw, Pike, Macon, and Bullock counties, as well as the City of Tallassee. Through partnerships with schools, local governments, healthcare providers, law enforcement, faith-based organizations, and community leaders, RAP has delivered evidence-based prevention programming, youth and family education, substance use awareness campaigns, workforce and life skills education, and community coalition development designed to reduce substance misuse before it begins. These collaborative efforts have strengthened local capacity to address substance use disorders while promoting healthier, more resilient communities.

As the needs of our communities evolved, RAP expanded beyond prevention to address the critical gap in long-term recovery support. Today, the organization operates three Recovery Café initiatives serving rural Alabama: Cornerstone Recovery Café in Troy, The Way Recovery Café in Tallassee, and a developing Recovery Café in Tuskegee. These recovery community centers provide peer support, recovery coaching, educational programming, workforce development, recovery circles, and connections to behavioral health, primary care, housing, employment, and other essential community resources in a safe, welcoming environment.

Looking toward the future, RAP is working to expand certified recovery residences throughout the Wiregrass region while developing comprehensive recovery ecosystems across rural Alabama. These ecosystems are designed to create a seamless continuum of care that connects prevention, treatment, recovery housing, workforce development, education, healthcare, and long-term peer support. By bringing these services together, RAP seeks to ensure that individuals and families living in rural communities have access to sustainable recovery opportunities without having to leave the communities they call home.

Today, Rural Addiction Prevention continues to grow as a trusted community partner, demonstrating that lasting recovery begins with strong prevention efforts, compassionate support, and communities that invest in hope, healing, and opportunity for every individual.
