The Best Part About Coming Home? Helping Your Neighbors. ❤️

For Jake Klewer, MD, becoming a physician was always about serving others.

"I grew up surrounded by physicians and always respected their roles as providers and their desire to serve. Inspired by my time playing college basketball, I was drawn to medicine because I viewed it as another team sport with patients, family members, staff and other providers all working together towards a common goal.”

As a Tucson native and The University of Arizona College of Medicine graduate, Dr. Klewer is honored and excited to return home as Pima Heart & Vascular's newest electrophysiologist—helping patients with atrial fibrillation (AFib), heart rhythm disorders, palpitations and other cardiac arrhythmias.

From diagnosing irregular heartbeats to performing advanced catheter ablations and implanting pacemakers, Dr. Klewer is committed to delivering compassionate, team-based heart care to the community that helped shape him.

Whether you're experiencing palpitations, dizziness, fainting spells or have been diagnosed with an abnormal heart rhythm, Dr. Klewer is here to help.

Diabetes and heart disease are more connected than most people realize.

Adults with diabetes are 2x more likely to develop heart disease — and often at a younger age.

High blood sugar damages blood vessels and nerves over time, and can lead to:
Coronary artery disease
Heart failure
Stroke

Your heart and your weight are more connected than you might think.

Excess weight — especially around the midsection — raises the risk of:
🔺 High blood pressure
🔺 High cholesterol
🔺 Type 2 diabetes
🔺 Heart disease and heart failure

The good news: even modest weight loss (5–10% of body weight) can meaningfully lower cardiovascular risk.

Your heart will thank you. 💙

Atrial fibrillation (AFib) affects more than 6 million Americans — and many don't know they have it.

AFib is an irregular heartbeat that can significantly increase your risk of stroke and heart failure.

Common symptoms include:
🔸 Heart palpitations or fluttering
🔸 Shortness of breath
🔸 Fatigue or weakness
🔸 Dizziness or lightheadedness

But many people with AFib have NO symptoms at all.

Risk factors include age, high blood pressure, obesity, sleep apnea, and family history.

If you have any of these risk factors — or if something just doesn't feel right — please see a cardiologist.

Early detection saves lives. We're here to help.

Heart attacks don't always look like the movies.

While crushing chest pain is a classic sign, many heart attacks — especially in women — can show up differently:

🔹 Unusual fatigue or weakness
🔹 Nausea or indigestion
🔹 Pain in the jaw, neck, arm, or back
🔹 Shortness of breath without chest pain
🔹 Feeling of dread or "something's wrong"

Every minute matters. If you or someone near you is experiencing these symptoms, call 911 immediately.

And if you have risk factors — high blood pressure, diabetes, family history, smoking — don't wait to see a cardiologist.
