Volunteering for events, rescue or special projects is deserving of this 2013 podcast, Its still relevant today. This podcast could save a life, reputation or equipment. Around the world more lives are saved by recreational personal water craft operators than qualified public safety personnel. Why is this? They own the boat, they are there during an flood event, they know how to operate the PWC, they know their neighborhood, and they are willing to take on the risks. Rescue using a PWC does not require a qualification certificate, there is the good Samaritan, but the risk and results are extreme. You may have no backup, you may not know the risks that loom ahead or have no experience in moving water that is unrelentless during flood flow. I think you may enjoy this old discussion. Blast from the past. Event safety is one of the worst to support. The team mates are often untrained, do not have a public safety mindset or background, most likely unvetted and uncertified, so the stakes are high for them. Plus they often volunteer and pay their way. But a court room doesn't care. Then flip the egg and we have the same problem on both sides, why? Its a human behavioral element. Back in 2013 Ben and I of K38 put this podcast out to help everyone start asking questions and assess themselves.
