THE WHY BEHIND OUR GOAL AND EFFORTS:
If something happened in the past, its history. Regardless of who it envolved, its our history, not just the history of one group. Arguably there were reasons educators highlighted, what they taught, it really is our responsibility to use what we learned as a basis to continue learning, remembering and honoring the events and people of our history. Good Luck, Maryland: A former settlement from 1672, now located where the Goddard Space Flight Center and residential areas exist.
Good Luck was a 100-acre property deeded to Alexander Magruder in 1672. Magruder owned approximately 4,000-acres of land in Maryland, and some of his properties, such as Good Luck, were named after locations in the Scottish Highlands.

In 1871, the village of Glennville (later renamed Glenn Dale) was platted by John Glenn and Edmund B. Duvall. Located on the Baltimore and Potomac Railroad, Glenn Dale prospered, and in 1876, Good Luck's post office was moved there. In 1899, Good Luck was described as a "rural village" alongside "the railroad village of Glenn Dale".

"Good Luck Road" is still located at the site of the former settlement, which is currently occupied by the Goddard Space Flight Center and a residential community.

1977, Feb. 5. "Sugar" Ray Leonard made professional boxing debut at Civic Center, Baltimore. He started and trained in Palmer Park, MD and lived in Glen Dale, Maryland for a while, was the first boxer to win world titles in welterweight, junior middleweight, middleweight, super middleweight, and light heavyweight. PG stand up for helping with one of the greats in boxing history.

Fairmont Heights School located at 737 61st Avenue
Fairmont Heights, MD 20743.

Established around 1912; 2 story frame schoolhouse of institutional Foursquare form; a pyramidal roof cupola rises from the front plane of the hip roof and the original school bell is preserved inside. Designed by noted black architect William Sidney Pittman of Washington, D. C.; after its construction, it had the only facilities for industrial training of blacks in Prince George’s County; Served as school until 1934; historically an important landmark in Fairmont Heights.

Black History Month: History we were never taught in School: Seneca Village, a 19th-century community of predominantly African American property owners. Founded in 1825 by free Black Americans, the first such community in the city. At its peak, the community had approximately 225 residents, three churches, two schools, and three cemeteries.
Seneca Village existed until 1857, when, through eminent domain, the villagers and other settlers in the area were forced to leave and their houses were torn down for the construction of Central Park. The entirety of the village was dispersed.

Established in 1825, this 5-to-10-acre, middle-class settlement was located between West 82nd and 89th Streets and 7th and 8th Avenues (now Central Park West) in Manhattan.
