Back-to-school anxiety can be difficult for the whole family.
A child may be worried about separation, friendships, academics, the classroom,or simply returning to a routine that feels overwhelming.
In his latest guide, Dr. Aryeh Berlin explains how parents can prepare their children for the transition back to school, and what the research says actually helps, combining understanding, support, gradual practice, and steady encouragement.

No insurance company decides how long your child's treatment lasts. We do — based on what's actually working.

That's one of the core reasons our families choose to work with us out-of-network. When an insurance algorithm — not the person actually in the room with your child — is setting the terms, care gets rushed, capped, or boxed into a formula that doesn't fit the kid in front of us.

At Aspire, session length, frequency, and pacing are clinical decisions. Dr. Berlin and our team make them with you, based on real progress — not a policy limit.

Want to talk through what that could look like for your child? Reach out anytime.

"In 10 minutes, we're leaving." Sounds simple — but for a lot of kids, transitions are one of the hardest parts of the day.

Moving from playtime to homework, screen time to dinner, home to school — these shifts can trigger real resistance, and it's rarely about defiance. It's often just a nervous system that needs more warning than we think.

One easy fix: give time warnings before a transition (10 minutes, 5 minutes, 1 minute), and when you can, tell your child what's coming next — not just what they're leaving behind. "When we leave the park, we're going for ice cream" gives them something to move toward, not just something to lose.

Small shift, real difference.

Big meltdowns over small things aren't your child trying to manipulate you — and they're not a sign of bad parenting either.

During a meltdown, a child's emotional brain temporarily takes over their thinking brain. Logic, lectures, and consequences don't work in that moment because they can't work — the "thinking" part isn't fully online yet.

One simple shift that helps: validate before you correct. "I can see you're really upset" doesn't mean you agree with the behavior — it just tells your child you understand. Research shows this alone lowers emotional intensity.

If meltdowns are frequent, escalating, or disrupting school and family life, our team can help build a plan that actually works.

One of the most misunderstood forms of OCD is religious scrupulosity.
From the outside, it can look like deep religious commitment. But for the person experiencing it, religious practices may be driven by overwhelming fear, doubt, or the need for absolute certainty, not by the peace their faith is meant to bring.
In his latest article, Dr. Aryeh Berlin explains what religious scrupulosity OCD is, how to recognize it, and the evidence-based treatments that help, all while respecting each family's religious beliefs.
