PHC Donor Spotlight: Jack Scoggins
Recently, I had the privilege of visiting with Jack Scoggins, who was inducted into the Georgia Aviation Hall of Fame in recognition of his distinguished career as a pilot and flight instructor. “They contacted me back in September and I’ve been waiting by the phone since for them to call and tell me, Mr. Scoggins I’m sorry we’ve made a mistake,” he joked. As we talked about this well-deserved honor, our conversation naturally turned to another part of his legacy, his longstanding connection to Partnership Health Center.
His connection to PHC spans decades. His late wife, Joan Scoggins, a Nurse Practitioner and Physician’s Assistant was one of our original volunteers, and her legacy remains part of the clinic today. Now, Jack and his wife, Joan Bellflower Scoggins, continue that tradition of service and generosity by supporting PHC's mission. I asked him why he supports PHC, and his response was simple and to the point, “To help the people who don’t have the financial capability of buying access to healthcare.”
Whether attending our annual gala, joining us for clinic tours, or encouraging others to learn about our mission, Jack and Joan remain champions for ensuring uninsured adults in our community know there is a place to receive the care they need.
This year, Jack also celebrated his 95th birthday, a milestone that reflects a life of service and generosity. “I want people to feel that I was trying to help them, whether it was a financial need or trying to fly an airplane safely. Safely being the keyword there,” he said with a laugh.
Thank you, Jack, for the example you continue to set. Your family's legacy lives on in our clinic, in our community, and in the lives of the patients we are honored to serve.
