Last year, I was able to mentor my bear tag to my oldest grandson, Kendrix. He harvested a very nice brown-colored bear after an exciting hunt. The dogs trailed the bear across three or four canyons before finally treeing him. Kendrix made a great shot and harvested his very first bear. It was a hunt and a memory I’ll never forget.
This year, my wife had the opportunity to mentor her bear tag to our second-oldest grandson, McCoy. He was able to harvest a really nice black-colored bear and create a special memory of his own.
These hunts with our grandkids may honestly be even more fun than hunting for yourself. Hunting with a kid in general is just a lot of fun. They’re in it for the experience and are simply excited to be there. There’s no concern about trophy size or expectations—just the excitement of being outdoors, learning, and having fun.
