Eighteen rising juniors and seniors from Norfolk Academy Medical Scholars Program kicked off their summer inside our hospital walls — shadowing teams in the emergency department, cardiac cath lab, operating room, therapy/rehab, intensive care unit, and more ☀️🩺 🏥

Thanks to Virginia Beach EMS they also got to tour an ambulance 🚑

They wrapped up their school year just last week, and now they’re stepping into real‑world medicine. For the next few months each student will shadow a total of four hours in areas of their choosing.

Programs like this help students see themselves in Hampton Roads healthcare — and help us grow the next generation of caregivers our community deserves 💙

❤️ Honor Bobby Sipka. Save a Life. ❤️

Join us for a blood drive at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital on Tuesday, June 16 from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.

This drive is held in memory of Bobby Sipka, who shared his powerful story last December about his journey on 2 South Oncology.

Bobby hoped to return to inspire others, but sadly, he passed away in February from leukemia, a type of blood cancer.

Bobby himself relied heavily on blood transfusions and his family breathed a sigh of relief everytime he was able to get blood.

Help us continue his legacy of hope by giving the gift of life.

After a sudden asthma attack causing cardiac arrest left 21-year-old Cherrish Faith Rodgers brain dead, her mother made an extraordinary decision: donate her heart, liver, pancreas, and kidneys.

Five people across the country now have a second chance at life.

“You never know when God will turn someone’s tragedy into another person’s blessing,” said Casanadra Hall, Rodgers' mom.

On Sunday, our hospital honored Cherrish with an emotional honor walk — her one-year-old daughter at the foot of her bed as staff lined the hallways in silence.

“She’s not dead,” Hall said. “She’ll live on through the lives she saved and through her children.”

A legacy of love, generosity, and hope.
