Our 5 facilities are a vital part of the community and serve all patients, regardless of their health coverage. We operate Maui Memorial Medical Center, Maui Memorial Medical Center Outpatient Clinic, Kula Hospital, Kula Clinic and Lanai Community Hospital. Maui Health is where patients receive award-winning health care at every touchpoint. We have state-of-the-art equipment and some of the newest technology available. Our hospitals, clinics, and highly skilled providers and specialists are committed to providing you excellent, coordinated healthcare right here in Maui County. We are affiliated with Kaiser Permanente, one of America's leading healthcare providers, with more than 74 years of experience operating hospitals and clinics across the nation. This partnership allows us to leverage Kaiser Permanente's substantial scale and operational experience and tap in to their industry-leading technology and nationally-recognized healthcare quality. You do not have to be a Kaiser Permanente member to receive care from us. We serve all patients, regardless of your health insurance coverage or ability to pay. Our hospitals work with all community providers—those that serve both Kaiser patients and non-Kaiser patients.

In partnership with the State of Hawaiʻi and Kaiser Permanente, we are excited to officially confirm that we will reopen Kula Hospital.

Thanks to funding from the State of Hawaiʻi and an investment from Kaiser Permanente, Maui Health will move forward with plans to restore, modernize, and reopen Kula Hospital.

For more than a century, the historic Upcountry hospital has been a trusted source of care for local families. This investment will help preserve that legacy, strengthen the facility for future generations and move us one step closer to welcoming Hale Makamae residents back to their home.

“This is an important moment for Kula Hospital and for the Upcountry community,” said Wade Ebersole, interim CEO of Maui Health. “We are grateful to the state, Kaiser Permanente, our elected officials and the many partners who helped us reach this point. I also want to recognize our Kula Hospital and Hale Makamae teams, who have continued caring for patients and residents through months of change and uncertainty.”

September is Sepsis Awareness Month. Did you know? Sepsis is the leading cause of death in U.S. hospitals and claims 11 million lives worldwide each year, taking more lives than cancer.

Q: What is Sepsis?⁠
⁠
A: Sepsis is a serious condition that happens when your body has an extreme response to an infection. It can cause your organs to stop working properly and can be life-threatening if not treated quickly. Early treatment is very important.

Common signs of sepsis include fever, chills, rapid breathing and heartbeat, and extreme discomfort or pain. If you notice these symptoms, it's important to get medical help right away.

Sepsis can start from any infection in your body, such as in your lungs, skin, or stomach. Bacterial infections are the most common cause, but it can also result from viruses or fungi.

Treatment includes antibiotics to fight the infection, fluids to maintain blood pressure and hydration, and medications to support your organs. In some cases, surgery may be needed to remove the source of the infection.

While not all cases of sepsis can be prevented, you can reduce your risk by practicing good hygiene, staying up to date on vaccinations, managing chronic conditions, and seeking prompt medical care for infections.

If you think someone has sepsis, seek emergency medical care immediately. Sepsis is a medical emergency, but with awareness, early recognition, and timely treatment, lives can be saved.

Advanced heart care is now available closer to home. ❤️

Maui Memorial Medical Center is now offering Heartflow Analysis, an innovative technology that uses data from a non-invasive Coronary CT Angiogram (CCTA) to evaluate coronary artery disease, providing physicians with deeper insights into plaque, blood flow, and the most appropriate treatment plan.

Community providers are invited to join Dr. Sarah Rinehart for a virtual educational session tomorrow, September 16, at 12 p.m., to learn how Heartflow is changing the way coronary artery disease is evaluated and managed. There's still time to RSVP!

Q: What actually happens when you call the 988 Crisis Lifeline? How do you know when it’s time to call?

A: Many people hesitate to call a crisis hotline because they’re unsure what will happen on the other end. The truth is that calling or texting 988, the Su***de & Crisis Lifeline, is a simple, confidential way to connect with support when you’re struggling.

When you call or text 988, you’ll be connected with a trained crisis counselor who will listen without judgment, help you process what you’re experiencing and work with you to identify helpful next steps. Calls and texts are free and confidential, and you can reach out for yourself or someone else who may be struggling.

You don’t have to wait until a situation becomes unbearable to reach out. Consider calling or texting 988 if you or someone you know is experiencing:
• Overwhelming emotional distress
• Feeling hopeless or trapped
• Thinking about su***de or self-harm
• Struggling with substance use
• Withdrawing from others
• Unsure where to turn for help

Support is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. If you believe you or another person is in immediate danger, call 911.
