Sheryl Marie Hunt, 73, of Garner, North Carolina, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on June 17, 2026, at her residence.
Sheryl was born on July 16, 1952, in Raleigh, North Carolina, to Robert Blackwood and Julia Blackwood.
She is survived by her children, William Pendergraft and his wife Cristy of Zebulon, Joshua Pendergraft and his wife Kristyn of Sims, and Tabitha Hunt and her husband Jette of Clayton. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren, Weslyn, Ryder, Luke, and Bentley.
She is also survived by her nephew, Travis Pendergraft and his wife Helen, and her great-nieces, Crystal and Gracie. Sheryl’s family was a source of great meaning in her life, and she held each of them close to her heart. She was especially grateful for the people who stood by her and helped her along the way, including her lifelong friend Lonnie Arnette, whose loyalty and care, along with the support of his sons Dan and Chris, meant so much to her and her family.
One of Sheryl’s favorite places in the world was the coast. She loved the beach and longed to live there, finding peace and joy in the beauty of the water and the familiar rhythm of coastal life. Over the years, she made her home in Beaufort and Morehead City, where she was able to enjoy the setting, she loved so much. Eventually, she returned to be near her family and her beloved grandsons, whom she adored and was so proud of. Her life reflected the deep love she had for her family and the importance she placed on being close to the people who meant the most to her.
Sheryl, affectionately known by many who loved her as Bertha, will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to know her. Though her passing came far too soon, her family and friends take comfort in knowing that she is now in heaven with her mother and grandmother. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind, and she will always be remembered for her loving heart, her gentle spirit, and the many ways she made life better for the people around her.
A memorial service will be held in the chapel of Bright Funeral Home on Monday, June 29, 2026, at 6 o'clock in the afternoon.
The family will receive friends for visitation following the service in the Magnolia room of Bright Funeral Home.
