This National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, take a step toward safer homes and a healthier, drug-free community. đź’ś

Unused or expired prescription medications can pose risks when left unsecured at home. They may be accidentally taken by children or others, misused by someone they weren't prescribed to, or contribute to substance misuse and addiction.

Properly disposing of medications is a simple but important step in preventing prescription drug misuse and protecting our families and communities. Keeping medications out of the wrong hands can help prevent accidental poisonings, reduce opportunities for misuse, and support a healthier, safer community.

đź’ś Have unused or expired medications? Take the next step!

You don't have to keep medications you no longer need. Trumbull County has local medication disposal locations where you can safely and responsibly dispose of them.

📍 Find a medication disposal location near you:

Let's work together to prevent prescription drug misuse before it starts. Small actions can make a big difference in protecting our loved ones and promoting prevention and recovery in our community.

Secure it. Dispose of it safely. Help prevent misuse. đź’ś

College is a time of new experiences, but alcohol use deserves an honest conversation. 📚💜

Between parties, peer pressure, and the stress of balancing classes, work, and relationships, alcohol can become a normalized part of college life. But just because drinking is common in some social settings doesn't mean it's risk-free.

Alcohol can affect judgment, coordination, memory, sleep, and mental health. Binge drinking can increase the risk of alcohol poisoning, injuries, and other serious consequences. Over time, repeated alcohol misuse can also contribute to alcohol use disorder, a medical condition that can affect people from every background.

Awareness and prevention start with knowing what to look for:

đź’ś Recognize the signs. Drinking more than intended, struggling to cut back, experiencing cravings, or continuing to drink despite negative consequences may signal a problem.

đź’ś Challenge peer pressure. No one should feel they need to drink to fit in. Support friends who choose not to drink, and respect their decisions.

đź’ś Look out for one another. Never leave someone who may have alcohol poisoning alone. Signs can include confusion, vomiting, seizures, slow or irregular breathing, or difficulty staying conscious. Call 911 immediately if you suspect alcohol poisoning.

đź’ś Know that support is available. If alcohol use is affecting your health, relationships, academics, or daily life, reaching out for help is a positive step. You don't have to wait for a crisis to seek support.

Substance use prevention isn't about judgment. It's about education, informed choices, and making sure people have the support they need before substance use causes further harm.

Let's build a culture where looking out for each other matters more than drinking, and asking for help is always okay. đź’ś

Kindness can make a difference. Every person deserves to feel safe, valued, and supported. đź’™

Bullying can have a lasting impact on mental health, contributing to feelings of loneliness, anxiety, and hopelessness. During Bullying Prevention Month, we’re reminded that preventing bullying is also part of creating a community where people feel connected, supported, and safe asking for help.

You never know what someone may be going through behind the scenes. A simple act of kindness, checking in on someone, speaking up when you witness bullying, or listening without judgment can make a meaningful difference.

đź’™ How can you help?
• Speak up when it’s safe to do so.
• Include others and practice empathy.
• Check in on someone who may be struggling.
• Take signs of emotional distress seriously.
• Encourage anyone who is struggling to reach out for support.

If you or someone you know is experiencing emotional distress or having thoughts of su***de, help is available. Call or text 988 to connect with free, confidential support, 24/7.

Let’s work together to create a community where everyone feels they belong, their voices are heard, and they know they are never alone. 💙

Substance use disorders are mental health conditions. Like other mental health conditions, they can affect a person’s thoughts, behaviors, relationships, and daily life. They deserve understanding, treatment, and support—not shame or judgment.

Mental health and substance use can also occur together, which is why looking at the whole person matters. When we understand the connection, we can better recognize when someone needs help and create pathways to compassionate, effective care.

This Mental Illness Awareness Week, let’s challenge the stigma surrounding addiction and change the way we talk about substance use.

đź’ś Choose understanding over judgment.
đź’ś Encourage people to seek support.
đź’ś Remember that recovery is possible.

A person is more than their addiction. Their story doesn’t end with a diagnosis.

The words we use can either build a bridge to recovery—or create another barrier. 💜 Addiction is often surrounded by shame, judgment, and misconceptions. Believing that someone simply needs more willpower or that addiction is a personal failure can make it harder for people to acknowledge what they’re experiencing and reach out for help. We can help change that.

💬 Choose person-first language. A person is more than their addiction. Words like “person with a substance use disorder” recognize the individual—not just the condition.

đź‘‚ Listen without judgment. Creating a safe space for honest conversations can help someone feel less alone and more comfortable seeking support.

đź“– Share stories of recovery. Real experiences can challenge stereotypes and remind others that change is possible.

🤝 Support treatment and recovery. Seeking help is not something to be ashamed of. Treatment and recovery support can be important steps toward a healthier life.

Reducing stigma doesn’t mean ignoring the realities or consequences of addiction. It means making sure shame isn’t another barrier standing between someone and the help they need.

This Recovery Month, let’s change the conversation from judgment to understanding, shame to support, and hopelessness to possibility.
Recovery is possible. And everyone deserves the opportunity to pursue it. đź’ś
