A new clinical research opportunity for people diagnosed with Huntington’s disease (HD) who are experiencing the early symptoms of the disease has launched at Georgetown University Medical Center. The INVEST-HD international study is a Phase 3 research study evaluating an investigational oral medication called votoplam. The goal of this 24-36 month study is to see if this treatment can help slow the progression of HD symptoms. People between the ages of 21 and 70 and have a previous genetic diagnosis for Huntington’s disease may be eligible. Participants will be compensated for their time and effort. A barren concrete pad at a Clay County, West Virginia, high school is now a “blue-green” wellness space, created through a collaboration between Georgetown faculty and graduate nursing students, and local high schoolers. New research finds that youth-led environmental design can foster a unique form of “Situated Strength.”

Students report better emotional regulation, stronger resilience, and a deeper sense of belonging, thanks to a space they helped design themselves. As noted by lead researcher, Melody Wilkinson of Berkley School of Nursing, “As a clinician, it challenges us to recognize that some of the most meaningful impacts on health may happen outside the clinic — through connection, environment, and experiences as simple as building something together.”

New research from Berkley School of Nursing faculty suggests that youth-led environmental design can help build mental health in adolescents in rural Appalachian communities.

We're proud to celebrate Dr. Lakshmi Krishnan, the founding director of Georgetown's Medical Humanities Initiative, who has been named a 2026–27 Harvard Radcliffe Institute Fellow! 🎉

During her fellowship, Dr. Krishnan plans to complete her book The Doctor and the Detective, which explores how modern medical diagnosis was shaped not only by science, but by the literary imagination — particularly detective fiction.

A physician and scholar, Dr. Krishnan exemplifies Georgetown's commitment to scholarship that crosses disciplines and serves the greater good.

Krishnan will spend the upcoming academic year completing her book, The Doctor and the Detective, about how modern medical diagnosis was forged as much through the literary imagination — particularly detective fiction — as through science.

Advancing health means looking beyond medicine alone and understanding the many factors that shape the well-being of individuals and communities. As part of Georgetown University Medical Center, the School of Health is a home for scholars and students to achieve a deeper understanding of the interconnections among the most challenging human health issues of our time, and to find solutions. Rooted in the Jesuit value of cura personalis, or care of the whole person, Georgetown prepares students to approach health through collaboration, compassion, and a commitment to equity.
