💛 Tyler's birthday is more than a celebration of an extraordinary life. We take this time to honor the persistence and purpose he chose and the impact that continues because of his choices.

This day puts a question before us: What do we do with the time we’re given?

That question became deeply personal for Tyler. His answer was to leave behind more than memories and love — though he certainly left those. He chose, under the most difficult of conditions, to advocate, to challenge, to inspire action and to make the fight against pediatric cancer impossible to ignore.

To show up and never give up.

His actions created a lasting commitment to work that could change lives long after his own.

For those who would like to honor Tyler today by supporting pediatric cancer research, a gift to the Tyler Trent Pediatric Cancer Research Center is one way to help carry that purpose forward. https://purdue.university/4ztaAV2

A child diagnosed with cancer may depend on discoveries that begin long before the clinic — understanding the mechanisms that drive disease, identifying molecular vulnerabilities, revealing how tumors grow and respond, and building the foundational knowledge that future therapies are designed from.

Researchers across PICR and the Tyler Trent Pediatric Cancer Research Center are bringing Purdue’s deep strengths in biology, pharmacy, chemistry, engineering, veterinary medicine and more to the fight against pediatric cancer.

Childhood Cancer Awareness Month is a moment to recognize both the children and families who give this work its purpose, and the science required to create more and better possibilities for their care. https://purdue.link/pediatric-and-rare-cancers

Purdue researchers are studying canine cancer to better treat and understand cancer in both companion animals and humans.

At the Evan and Sue Ann Werling Comparative Oncology Research Center, part of the Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine & Veterinary Hospital, veterinary researchers are studying cancers including bladder cancer, lymphoma and osteosarcoma, all of which have similar progressions in dogs and humans.

“Comparative oncology allows us to study cancer in pet animals that help the pets and help us to learn things that impact human cancer research,” Knapp said. “It’s a rare case of win-win-win. The pet benefits, the next 100 animals benefit and that knowledge also helps humans with cancer.”

The work spans personalized treatment, early detection and innovative approaches, including use of tools like Doppler radar and AI to gain insight into why some patients respond to drugs while others don’t.

🚨 Pluvicto’s reach has expanded.

And with it, the impact of a Purdue invention becomes even greater.

The FDA has expanded approval of Pluvicto® to PSMA-positive metastatic hormone-sensitive prostate cancer, nearly doubling the eligible patient population. The therapy was invented through research led by Purdue scientist and cancer institute member Philip Low, whose scientific legacy continues to change the treatment landscape for prostate cancer patients.

Knowledge is power against cancer.

Ours has been building for decades.

At the Purdue Institute for Cancer Research, federally funded discovery turns deeper understanding of disease into new possibilities for prevention, detection and treatment, improving lives today and for generations to come.

There is a thread connecting generations of American progress: it is the belief that there is always something more to learn. A better future waiting to be discovered. And the determination to pursue it.

This week, President Emeritus Mitch Daniels began serving as Purdue's interim president. Please join the Boilermaker community in welcoming back President Daniels.

Purdue's research enterprise grew remarkably during President Daniels' years of leadership and service to the university. We look forward to building on that momentum together by translating foundational science into new knowledge, technologies and advances that shape the future of cancer research.
