Mold is more than an unpleasant smell or something you see growing in a damp basement. For some people, exposure to mold and damp environments can contribute to significant health symptoms.

Have you ever heard of PANS or PANDAS?

For some families, the changes can seem to happen almost overnight. A child who was happy, social and functioning normally may suddenly develop intense anxiety, obsessive behaviors, tics, food restrictions or dramatic changes in behavior.

So, what are PANS & PANDAS?

𝗣𝗔𝗡𝗦 stands for Pediatric Acute-onset Neuropsychiatric Syndrome. It describes the sudden onset of OCD symptoms or severely restricted eating, along with other neurological, behavioral or emotional symptoms.

𝗣𝗔𝗡𝗗𝗔𝗦 is a specific form of PANS associated with a streptococcal (strep) infection. Researchers believe that, in some children, an immune response following an infection may contribute to inflammation affecting the brain.

🚩 Symptoms can include:

• Sudden-onset OCD or obsessive behaviors
• Severe food restriction or refusal to eat
• Anxiety or sudden separation anxiety
• Tics or unusual movements
• Dramatic mood or behavioral changes
• Irritability, aggression or emotional outbursts
• Changes in handwriting or motor skills
• Sudden decline in school performance
• Sleep problems
• Frequent urination or new bedwetting
• Sensory sensitivities or changes in behavior

One of the most important clues is how suddenly the symptoms appear. PANS/PANDAS symptoms can be intense and may come and go in episodes.
