You might have to look closely to find me in this photo… I’m tucked into a little “rest nest” beneath all those blankets, pillows, and cozy props. 😴✨

I’m so excited to bring this level of relaxation to Wainwright House this fall through a special 5-week Yoga Nidra series.

We’ll practice Yoga Nidra, with a little sound healing and Reiki sprinkled in. Practicing consistently, over five weeks, makes space for magic to happen: slowly but surely, we’re able to shed the habitual tension we carry and return to a natural state of ease and calm. 💫 We’re able to relax.

As a special friends-and-family discount, use code INNERPEACE to receive $40 off registration through September 3.

Here’s what really struck me:

Meditation doesn’t just help us be present. It also helps loosen the habit of waiting for the next thing until we’re happy — of thinking: I’ll be happy when…

—> I get the new job.
—> my body is different.
—> I meet the right person.
—>[fill in the blank.]

Sometimes we get that new job (or whatever the thing is). We might be happy for a while. But, then the “new job” becomes “the job” and we start looking for something else to make us happy.

We all know intellectually 💭 that life isn’t about waiting for some future moment to begin. But, sometimes a little meditation practice helps us also embody that knowledge and actually be happy now. 🤍

This is a short excerpt from a recent guided meditation for getting off the hamster wheel of “I’ll be happy when...” and savoring our lives now.

✨ If you try it, let me know—and share this with someone else who’s tired of waiting to feel happy.

Like the “Sunday scaries,” August can be hard to enjoy. If your mind is already focused on what’s next instead of what’s here, you’re not alone. Try one, two, or all three of these quick techniques to build your capacity to savor summer. Each takes only a few minutes and uses simple neuroscience to pull you out of your head and into the moment.

When your brain knows the assignment, you’ll be surprised at how much you notice in the moment - and how present you can be for your life.

It doesn’t matter what 6 things you write down at the end of the day, just write down any 6 things you notice - a pigeon out your window, wind in the trees, a train passing by, etc.

Research shows that when people jog in the morning, they eat healthier for the rest of the day. Similarly, taking ten calm breaths before you reach for your phone or dive into your to-do list sets you up to be more present and tuned in for the rest of your day.

Like practicing a sport or an instrument, the more you do it the better you get at it. Spending a few minutes a day practicing moving out of your head and into your body will help you build the habit of being fully present without worries of the future. It’s a simple somatic practice, but being embodied lets August be August.

If you give these tricks a try, let me know how it goes! And, if you have some mindfulness hacks that you recommend for enjoying the moment, please share!
