Living with Purpose
✨ Meet Martha, whose decades of volunteer service with FISH Williamsburg continue to make a meaningful impact throughout the Greater Williamsburg community.
For Martha, Living with Purpose means serving others. After a career in social services, she continued her passion for helping others by volunteering with FISH, where she has dedicated the past 22 years. As Volunteer Coordinator, Martha helps connect individuals and families in Williamsburg, James City County, and York County with food, clothing, hygiene items, and other essentials. Inspired by FISH's mission of "neighbors helping neighbors," she finds fulfillment in making a meaningful difference in the lives of those facing hardship.
Martha treasures the friendships and shared sense of purpose she has found with fellow WindsorMeade residents who volunteer alongside her. She is also deeply touched by friends who chose to make donations to FISH in memory of her husband. This is a meaningful gesture that strengthened her commitment to continue serving others.
She is proud that FISH operates entirely through volunteers and the generosity of community supporters, with more than 250 volunteers helping sustain its mission year after year.
For Martha, the relationships, compassion, and connections formed through decades of involvement with FISH continue to inspire her dedication to service. Her story is a beautiful reflection of what it means to live with purpose and how one person's commitment can enrich both individual lives and the broader community around us.
