Living with Purpose: Meet Ineke

Meet Ineke, who lives with purpose by giving back and finding lasting connections through volunteering.

Inspired by the compassion her family experienced through Sentara Hospice, Ineke began volunteering in 2012 as a way to give back. What started as office support grew into lasting friendships, personal growth, and a strong sense of purpose.

Over the years, volunteering has helped Ineke become more confident, connected, and engaged in her community. When asked what advice she would give someone considering volunteering, her answer is simple:

🙌 "Just do it." 🙌

For Ineke, volunteering is an opportunity to honor the support her family received, build meaningful relationships, and make a positive difference in the lives of others.

We are Growing More Than Vegetables 🌱

One of the many things that makes life at WindsorMeade so special is the opportunity to pursue passions and connect with nature right outside your door. The raised bed garden plots are thriving with colorful blooms, fresh vegetables, and fragrant herbs as residents enjoy another season of gardening together.

Whether tending tomatoes, picking fresh herbs for a favorite recipe, or enjoying time outdoors with neighbors, the community gardens offer a wonderful way to stay active, engaged, and connected.

At WindsorMeade, we are cultivating friendships and purpose right alongside our gardens.

What would you plant in your own garden plot? 🌿🍅🌻

Living with Purpose

🌟 Meet Mike, a WindsorMeade resident since 2008 and a dedicated cyclist who has been volunteering with Cycling Without Age since 2018.

Every other week, Mike and a fellow WindsorMeade resident pilot trishaw rides for residents, exploring scenic Williamsburg destinations like the Capital Trail and Colonial Williamsburg.

"I love being able to offer bike rides to people who may not be able to ride anymore," Mike shared. "There is also a unique perspective you get from a bicycle. You notice the wildlife, plants, and beauty of nature in a way you simply cannot from a car."

For Mike, the program is about connection, community, and helping others experience the joy of being outdoors. As he puts it: "You will love it. It will bring you happiness."

Thank you, Mike, for sharing your time, passion, and purpose with others, one ride at a time. 🚲💙

There is nothing quite like a summer morning spent supporting local artisans and growers! 🌻🛍️

This month, WindsorMeade welcomed a wonderful collection of local vendors for our Artisans and Farmers Market. Residents enjoyed browsing beautiful fresh flowers, handcrafted candles, crocheted creations, paper crafts, homegrown vegetables, jams, fresh herbs, and so much more.

Of course, one of the most popular stops of the day was the delicious cake pop stand; always a fan favorite! 🍰✨

Events like these are a wonderful way to connect with our local community while celebrating the creativity, talent, and hard work of the small businesses that make our region so special.

Thank you to all the vendors and residents for making this market such a success. We are already looking forward to the next one!

A favorite WindsorMeade summer tradition rolled into town this week: The Annual Car Show!

Residents, team members, and guests enjoyed an afternoon filled with classic cars and plenty of nostalgia as they admired an impressive collection of vehicles spanning the decades.

Of course, no summer gathering would be complete without great food and refreshments! A special thank you to The Salty Lemon for keeping everyone cool with their delicious fresh-squeezed lemonade and to Dominion Dogs Hot Dogs Cold Beer for serving up classic hot dogs that were the perfect complement to a beautiful summer day.

From chrome and convertibles to lemonade and laughter, it was a wonderful reminder that some of the best memories are made when a community comes together.

Living with Purpose

✨ Meet Martha, whose decades of volunteer service with FISH Williamsburg continue to make a meaningful impact throughout the Greater Williamsburg community.

For Martha, Living with Purpose means serving others. After a career in social services, she continued her passion for helping others by volunteering with FISH, where she has dedicated the past 22 years. As Volunteer Coordinator, Martha helps connect individuals and families in Williamsburg, James City County, and York County with food, clothing, hygiene items, and other essentials. Inspired by FISH's mission of "neighbors helping neighbors," she finds fulfillment in making a meaningful difference in the lives of those facing hardship.

Martha treasures the friendships and shared sense of purpose she has found with fellow WindsorMeade residents who volunteer alongside her. She is also deeply touched by friends who chose to make donations to FISH in memory of her husband. This is a meaningful gesture that strengthened her commitment to continue serving others.

She is proud that FISH operates entirely through volunteers and the generosity of community supporters, with more than 250 volunteers helping sustain its mission year after year.

For Martha, the relationships, compassion, and connections formed through decades of involvement with FISH continue to inspire her dedication to service. Her story is a beautiful reflection of what it means to live with purpose and how one person's commitment can enrich both individual lives and the broader community around us.

Living With Purpose: Ralph’s Story

Three years ago, Ralph was inspired to begin volunteering at Matthew Whaley Elementary School after hearing a fellow church member share how much local schools needed volunteers. But Ralph’s passion for literacy and learning began long before that.

Prior to tutoring in the classroom, Ralph spent more than 10 years volunteering with Literacy for Life, helping adults strengthen their reading and language skills. That experience naturally led him toward supporting English and literature classes at the elementary school level, where he now spends two days each week working with students and teachers.

For Ralph, the most rewarding moments are seeing a lesson finally “click” when confidence grows, understanding deepens, and a student begins to believe in themselves.

As part of our *Living With Purpose* series, WindsorMeade recently partnered with Ralph’s teacher to help organize a surprise thank-you from the students whose lives he has impacted so deeply. It was a beautiful reminder that while Ralph feels grateful to serve these children, they are just as grateful for him.

Through his kindness and compassion, Ralph continues to demonstrate the power of purpose, lifelong learning, and community connection.

At WindsorMeade, we are continually inspired by residents like Ralph who generously share their time, talents, and hearts throughout Williamsburg. 🤍
