🇺🇸 **Resident Spotlight: Captain Walter H. Baskin**

This Veterans Day, WindsorMeade is proud to recognize resident Captain Walter H. "Walt" Baskin, U.S. Navy (Retired), and his remarkable military career.

A 1959 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, Walt dedicated 30 years to the Navy, including eight years of active duty and 22 years in the Navy Reserve.

Throughout his career, Walt served aboard several submarines, including the USS Hardhead during the Cuban Missile Crisis and the historic USS Nautilus, the world's first nuclear-powered submarine. He later achieved the rank of Captain before retiring in 1989.

Walt's story is one of dedication, leadership and service. We are honored to recognize his contributions and share a glimpse into the experiences that have shaped his life.

Residents recently enjoyed a scenic two-night getaway to Lancaster, Pennsylvania, with beautiful weather accompanying them throughout the trip. Their adventure included memorable dining experiences at historic Greenfield Restaurant, Brock’s Riverside Grill overlooking the Rappahannock River, and Dock’s Seafood Restaurant, known for its celebrated crab cakes.

The journey also highlighted the area’s rich heritage and world-class entertainment. Residents enjoyed a spectacular performance at Sight and Sound Theatre, a unique stay at The Steamboat Inn, a traditional buggy ride, and an insightful tour of an Amish working farm.

Meade the Team: Meet Nikki!

As we celebrate Dining Month, we are pleased to recognize the team members who make a meaningful difference in the lives of residents and colleagues at WindsorMeade.

Nikki joined the WindsorMeade dining team four years ago as a server. She shares her artistic talent and beautiful handwriting in our bistro, where her work has evolved from listing updates to monthly artwork. She has even become a bit of a celebrity, with residents taking photos to share with their grandchildren and submitting requests for her creative work.

Nikki considers the residents her extended family and especially enjoys helping them in any way she can. In the future, she hopes to pursue a nursing role because helping others brings her great joy.

When asked what advice she would offer someone interested in becoming a server, Nikki said, “Have patience and compassion for others, and just be there for them.” Family members frequently thank her for her kindness, and we are grateful to have Nikki a part of the team.
