Living With Purpose: Ralph’s Story
Three years ago, Ralph was inspired to begin volunteering at Matthew Whaley Elementary School after hearing a fellow church member share how much local schools needed volunteers. But Ralph’s passion for literacy and learning began long before that.
Prior to tutoring in the classroom, Ralph spent more than 10 years volunteering with Literacy for Life, helping adults strengthen their reading and language skills. That experience naturally led him toward supporting English and literature classes at the elementary school level, where he now spends two days each week working with students and teachers.
For Ralph, the most rewarding moments are seeing a lesson finally “click” when confidence grows, understanding deepens, and a student begins to believe in themselves.
As part of our *Living With Purpose* series, WindsorMeade recently partnered with Ralph’s teacher to help organize a surprise thank-you from the students whose lives he has impacted so deeply. It was a beautiful reminder that while Ralph feels grateful to serve these children, they are just as grateful for him.
Through his kindness and compassion, Ralph continues to demonstrate the power of purpose, lifelong learning, and community connection.
At WindsorMeade, we are continually inspired by residents like Ralph who generously share their time, talents, and hearts throughout Williamsburg. 🤍
