A pair of siblings living with Treacher Collins syndrome, a genetic disorder causing facial deformities resulting in breathing issues, cleft palates, and hearing loss, are on a journey to understanding the world around them like they never have before❗

Deafness from Treacher Collins syndrome has been a barrier to Harold (14) and Niki (12) all their young lives.

In January, both children received Osia bone conduction hearing implants, which are hearing aids surgically implanted beneath the skin.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗰𝗵𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗢𝘀𝗶𝗮 𝗦𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺 has internal and external components. The system bypasses the deficient middle and outer ears and provides hearing through bone conduction—vibrations via the bones and skull stimulating the cochlea.

California’s Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital performed the surgery.
