Last week, I had the opportunity to share music with one of my largest groups yet!

It was a joy to share music with our local Memory Café at sponsored by:

The energy in the room was contagious, filled with laughter, singing, and meaningful connection. Community programs like this remind me how important it is to come together, support one another, and create moments of joy.

It was especially meaningful to see several of my regular Together in Harmony group members in attendance!

As a former activities director I know what it’s like trying to utilize all the spaces in a community, especially the outdoor spaces before it gets too hot outside.

Sure, you may have to move some furniture around to make sure everyone is in the shade, but it’s worth it when you see how much people enjoy being outside and engaged in music.

Having music therapy groups outdoors adds extra sensory experiences that can support relaxation, engagement, and overall well-being.

Feeling the breeze, hearing the birds, soaking in the sunshine, and connecting with music at the same time can create such a calming and meaningful experience.

Sometimes a simple change in environment can make all the difference.

When I realized I had two weeks between the end of spring semester and the start of summer semester, I knew I had to take the trip. ✈️

Going out to Colorado to visit family was the perfect reset and exactly what I needed to feel energized for what’s ahead this summer. 🏔️

This spring was full. I balanced being a full-time graduate student taking three classes while also running my private practice and designing an practicum centered around my unique interests in creative aging.

This summer, I’ll be taking a nonprofit development class and completing my practicum for my master’s degree in Gerontology. I’ll also be working with several creative aging organizations, and I’m looking forward to sharing more about both the work I completed this spring and the experiences ahead this summer.

Just a friendly reminder to anyone questioning whether they should schedule the trip, take the break, or do something for themselves, whether it’s big or small:
sometimes stepping away is exactly what helps you move forward. 💜

POV: You’re a music therapist letting the the music app take the lead 🎶✨

Sometimes my best inspiration comes from hitting play on a preferred song and enjoying where the app takes me.

1. Open your favorite music app
2. Pick a song you like
3. Let it play and enjoy the musical journey

I started with Cher’s “Gypsy’s, Tramps, & Thieves” and it led to this car dance party with Talking Heads “This Must Be the Place (Naive Melody) 🥰

What I love about this exercise:
🎵 It brings back songs I haven’t heard in years

🎵 It introduces me to new music I wouldn’t have found otherwise

🎵 And it fills my cup and sparks so many ideas for sessions with my clients

Music discovery doesn’t have to be complicated, it can be joyful, random, and a little bit silly.
