All are worth discussing.

On World Lung Cancer Day, we're highlighting the importance of early detection. Screening is used to detect lung cancer early and improve outcomes. Annual lung cancer screening with a low-dose CT scan should begin at age 50 for those who:

- Currently smoke or have smoked in the past 15 years
- Have at least a 20 pack-year smoking history
- Are in fairly good health

At Shenandoah Oncology, we believe that providing exceptional patient care begins with investing in our people.

Recently, our team came together for an All Office Team Building event led by Fit Life with Carrie Holland, MD, focused on strengthening connections, enhancing communication, and fostering a positive workplace culture. Through meaningful conversations, our staff had the opportunity to learn from one another, build stronger relationships, and reinforce our shared commitment to excellence.

When our team works together effectively, our patients benefit. By creating a supportive and engaged workplace, we are better equipped to deliver the compassionate, high-quality care that our community deserves.

A special thank you to Dr. Holland for leading this valuable experience and helping us continue to grow stronger as a team.

💙 Strong teams. Compassionate care. Better outcomes.

July is UV safety month. Ultraviolet (UV) radiation is a routine part of our environment, yet its impact on skin health is often underestimated. Because UV exposure is closely linked to the development of skin cancer, adopting consistent UV safety practices is one of the most effective steps individuals can take to support long term wellness. Apply sunscreen daily, and amplify its effectiveness with a comprehensive approach, including:

• Seeking shade during peak UV hours: UV radiation is typically strongest between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Choosing shaded areas during these times can significantly reduce exposure.

• Wearing protective clothing: Long sleeved garments, wide brimmed hats, and UV blocking sunglasses offer reliable physical protection. Many modern fabrics are designed to be lightweight while providing high Ultraviolet Protection Factor (UPF) ratings.

• Avoiding tanning beds: Indoor tanning devices emit concentrated UV radiation. Avoiding them is a straightforward way to reduce unnecessary exposure.

• Monitoring the UV index: The UV Index provides a daily estimate of UV intensity. A rating of 3 or higher indicates that protective measures are advisable, even on overcast days.

Grilling a few burgers or steaks can be a great way to enjoy summer with family and friends, but some grilling habits carry more health risks than others. The good news is that with a few simple adjustments, you can still enjoy the grill while lowering those risks.
