Honored to Serve and Support a Meaningful Cause 💜

Last evening, I had the privilege of attending The Purple Event as a proud Board Member of the Network Against Domestic Abuse. This annual fundraiser brings together community leaders, advocates, survivors, and supporters who are committed to ending domestic violence and creating safer, healthier communities for all. The event helps raise critical funds to support survivors, provide advocacy services, counseling, emergency shelter, and prevention education throughout our region.

As both a board member and the Founder/Executive Director of Powell Mental Health, I am continually reminded that healing requires more than awareness—it requires action, partnership, and a commitment to supporting individuals and families before, during, and after crisis.

At Powell Mental Health, we are proud to support the Network Against Domestic Abuse and the incredible work they do every day. Their mission aligns closely with our commitment to prevention, education, mental wellness, and helping individuals live free from violence, fear, and trauma.

Domestic violence impacts people of all ages, backgrounds, and communities. Together, we can continue to break the silence, support survivors, promote healthy relationships, and create pathways to hope and healing.

Thank you to the sponsors, volunteers, donors, fellow board members, and community partners who made this year’s Purple Event a success. Your generosity and dedication are changing lives. Huge thanks to Roger Susanin and Stephanie Simoni for your continued dedication and support!

Today was one of those days when, as business leaders, we pause, reflect, and realign our strategies to scale, grow, and create greater impact.

The Connecticut Small Business Summit, presented by Access Health CT, provided an excellent opportunity to connect, learn, and gain valuable insights from fellow entrepreneurs and industry leaders.

As Powell Mental Health continues to expand its reach, we remain committed to creating meaningful impact, advancing mental wellness, and providing support to communities locally and globally.

Growth requires intention, adaptation, and continuous learning—and today was a reminder that the journey toward excellence is built through collaboration, innovation, and service.

Mental Health First Aid: A Life-Saving Skill Every Community Needs

Most of us know CPR.

We learned it because we understood that quick action saves lives during a medical emergency.

But what happens when the emergency is a panic attack in a school hallway? A colleague who hasn't spoken in three days? A family member who stopped doing everything they once loved?

We freeze. Not because we don't care. Because nobody taught us what to do.

Mental Health First Aid changes that.

MHFA is a certified training that gives you practical skills to recognize warning signs, respond to someone in emotional distress and connect them to professional support before a crisis gets worse. Think of it the way you think about CPR: it doesn't replace a doctor. It keeps someone safe until the right help arrives.

Right now, 1 in 8 people globally live with a mental health condition. That number shows up in your office, your classroom, your home and your team. Mental health affects the people around you. The only real question is whether you're prepared to respond when it does.

🩵- For educators: you're often the first adult to notice a student pulling away. MHFA gives you the language and the confidence to act on what you already see.

🩵- For employers and leaders: mental health directly affects retention, productivity and culture. Trained teams perform better. They stay longer.

🩵- For parents and families: your instincts are right when something feels off. MHFA teaches you how to start the conversation without pushing someone further away.

🩵- For healthcare workers: you spend your days caring for others. This training helps you recognize burnout in yourself and your colleagues before it becomes a crisis.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month. But awareness without action is just a calendar event.

We offer personalized mental health training, certified MHFA programs, student coaching, executive and leadership coaching, counseling and organizational consulting.
