We were honored to attend the recent Child Health and Development Institute - CHDI luncheon celebrating partners across SAMHSA-funded initiatives! The event was a great opportunity to reflect on a successful year of building community with fellow grantees, and connect with clinicians, leaders, and service coordinators from CT TREE, SBIRT PATHS, and Project Champion.

A major highlight of the day: CHR was recognized for having the most individuals receiving a brief intervention, and several of our dedicated staff and supervisors were recognized for completing their MET/CBT certification! We are grateful to be able to offer this innovative model to clients we serve at CHR.

We were also proud to have Ashley Wilson, LCSW, and Michael Walters, LPCA, represent CHR on the Providers Innovation Panel, where they spoke about our agency’s work integrating SBIRT into schools and engaging justice-involved youth. Other CHR attendees that day were Caitlyn Ogilvie, LCSW, Krystal Macca, LPCA, Gina Spring, LPCA, Suzanne Sustaita, LPC, and Chanell Mundell, LPCA.

Thank you to CHDI for hosting and supporting this vital work in our community!

CHR's Women's REACH program recently attended the UCFS Recovery Resource Fair, a community outreach event hosted by UCFS Healthcare to connect individuals and families with addiction treatment, mental health support, and local recovery services. Thank you to Kelly Shepard, CPSRP, Recovery Navigator, for attending and sharing more information about Women’s REACH.

The Women’s REACH Program (funded by CT DMHAS) is designed to provide outreach, engagement, short-term case management, recovery coaching, and connections to community and recovery support resources to women with substance use or co-occurring disorders, with eligibility prioritized for individuals who are pregnant and/or parenting. In addition to women, services are available to expectant/parenting individuals who have been impacted by substance use (either personally or by the use of the child’s parent), such as parents, caregivers, and partners of REACH clients.

CHR's Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Training with Veterans Rally Point!

CHR's MHFA program hosted a Military, Veterans, and Their Families MHFA training with Veterans Rally Point. This was a two-day training, and CHR provided snacks and beverages as a small gesture of appreciation for their service. Thank you to CHR's Noelle Michaud, MS, MHFA Instructor, and Cheryl Cole, MHFA Peer Trainer, for conducting another successful training.

MHFA is an interactive, skills-based course teaching adults how to identify the signs and symptoms of a potential mental health challenge. Topics covered in the training include anxiety, depression, substance use, su***de, and self-care, and participants who complete the 7.5-hour training receive a certificate, valid for three years.

Your family may be starting a new chapter. This could also be the perfect moment to help a child or teen in foster care start theirs.

If your children are grown and your home feels quieter these days, fostering might be a good option. Empty nesters often have the experience, patience, stability, and space that children and teens in foster care need most.

In CHR’s Foster Care program, we believe families are powerful. Whether you have children or teens, are an empty nester, or grandparent, you may be in a great position to make a lasting difference in a young person's life.

As a CHR Foster Parent, you will receive comprehensive support, including training at the beginning and along the way, as well as staff who are available to help you 24/7.

Ready to learn more about fostering as a family? Call 860.730.8727 or email [email protected].
