Our MWC Prayer Request Form has been one of the most humbling experiences of MWC — reading the raw, tender needs of widows and carrying them to our prayer team week after week. Our MWC Prayer team consists of 12 widow volunteers who receive our prayer requests and connect with each submission personally. Such a beautiful outreach.

📍 Welcome to one of the most quietly devastating problems facing the and grief community online: algorithmic suppression of g r i e f content — commonly called shadow banning.

What Shadow Banning Actually Is (aside from being frustrating)
Social media platforms won’t use the term. Instagram, TikTok, and others refer instead to “content recommendations” and “account status,” but the effect is identical: your content stops reaching beyond your existing followers.
• It doesn’t appear in hashtag searches.
• It doesn’t surface in discovery feeds.
• It exists — it just doesn’t travel.
How does it happen? Platforms partner with crisis-response organizations and deploy automated content moderation systems trained to suppress language associated with self-harm, su***de contagion, and mental health crises.

The technology uses surface text matching (keep reading, this is important)— it reads words, not context.

It cannot tell the difference between a complex post on s u i c i d e and a widow writing honestly about the day her husband died.

The algorithm doesn’t know what grief is. And it’s costing our community dearly.

High-risk words that are often flagged outright- learn what they are and what we can do about it!!

She spent decades building a life alongside her spouse.
When he died, she expected grief.
She didn’t expect to spend months fighting for what was already hers.

Pensions. Benefits. Bank accounts. Credit.
The financial systems widows depend on most — are often the hardest to reach.

That has to change.

Article II of the Widows’ Bill of Rights says: widows have the right to financial security and economic independence. Not someday. Not after the paperwork clears.
