Michael McKeever

Michael Eugene McKeever, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother-in-law, uncle, and friend, passed away on August 7, 2026 after a life filled with love, laughter, music, family, and friendship.
Mike was born on August 22, 1951, in St. Louis to Betty Davies-Hubach and Paul McKeever.
He graduated from East Alton-Wood River High School in 1969, where he excelled in both track and field and football. Mike met the love of his life, Margaret, at an early age, and their story truly began when they started dating during Mike’s senior year of high school. They attended prom, fell in love, and began a life together that would span more than five decades. Mike and Margaret were married on November 19, 1972, and went on to build a beautiful family together.
In 1973, Mike began his career at U.S. Steel, where he worked for nearly four decades before retiring in 2012. Mike’s greatest passion was music. He loved singing, playing guitar, and attending concerts. Music was a part of who he was, and he shared that love with those around him. He also enjoyed playing golf, watching sports, and, most of all, spending time with his family and friends. Those who knew Mike will remember his humor, his stories, his music, and the joy he brought to the people around him.
Mike is survived by his wife, Margaret; his children, Aaron McKeever and Megan McKeever-Hartmann and her husband, David Hartmann; and his grandchildren, Andrew McKeever, Tyler McKeever, Nicholas McKeever, Arlie Hartmann, and Elijah Hartmann. He is also survived by his sister, Karen Johnson, and her husband, Bill; his sister-in-law, Barb Schum, and her husband, Tod; as well as nieces and a nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents. Mike will be remembered as a man who loved deeply, laughed often, sang loudly, and made life more memorable for those fortunate enough to know him. To his family and friends, he will always be their own kind of Desperado—one of a kind, unforgettable, and deeply loved.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 12 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Wood River, followed by a funeral service and luncheon at the church.
