Researchers at the Terasaki Institute for Biomedical Innovation, led by Yangzhi Zhu, PhD, and collaborators at Mayo Clinic in Arizona, have developed a wireless biosensing platform that continuously monitors key biomarkers in both perfusion fluid and bile during donor liver preservation. 🧫

100,000+ people in the U.S. are waiting for a lifesaving organ transplant. This kind of innovation could help more donor livers reach the patients who need them. 🧬

🎙️Next up in our Terasaki Talk series 🎙️

We are excited to highlight our upcoming Terasaki Talk featuring Dr. Kaushal Rege, Professor and Director of the Center for Biomaterials Innovation and Translation at the Biodesign Institute, and Chair of the Biological Design Graduate Program at Arizona State University.

Dr. Rege will present new strategies for treating chronic, slow-healing wounds. These impaired wounds, which are common in patients with diabetes, obesity, and advanced age, can remain stalled in a state of low-level inflammation, preventing normal healing progression.

Join us in welcoming our 2026 Summer Junior Interns!

These brilliant minds will be divided into three different bioengineering tracks: research, innovation, and marketing. They will develop the skills and expertise needed to drive the next wave of breakthroughs. 🥼

We are excited to bring them a summer of growth, innovation, and meaningful contributions to biomedical research. We can’t wait to see what they accomplish! 🔬

Have you ever thought about what goes into healing a hard-to-reach or slow-to-heal wound? ❤️‍🩹

Researchers at the Terasaki Institute for Biomedical Innovation have developed an injectable material made from silk proteins and a plant-derived compound that promoted complete wound closure within 72 hours in laboratory tests. Because it can be delivered through a small needle, it has the potential to reduce the need for invasive procedures in soft tissue repair. 🧪
