School asks a lot of a child’s nervous system. Between learning, social pressures, noise, transitions, expectations, and big emotions, their bodies and minds are working hard all day.
Sometimes the after-school tears, irritability, or meltdowns aren’t “bad behavior”—they’re a sign of an overwhelmed nervous system.

Connection before correction.
Calm before conversation.
Safety before expectations.

A regulated child is better able to learn, connect, and grow. ❤️

Who is Katie Vaverka, LCSW?

I’m a strength-based therapist who works with clients of all ages, with a primary focus on pre-teens and teenagers, as well as adults and families. I’ve been working with children since 2004 and in a professional setting since 2011, and I’ve found that one of the most important parts of therapy is creating a space where people feel genuinely heard, understood, and accepted.

I strive to create a safe and supportive environment where clients can slow down, make sense of what they’re feeling, and learn how to identify and process their emotions in healthy ways. I work with individuals navigating grief, anxiety, depression, and other emotionally challenging experiences, helping them build coping skills, confidence, and resilience along the way.

As a mom to three boys, I understand firsthand that parenting can be incredibly rewarding, but it can also be challenging and sometimes overwhelming. I believe that when a child is struggling, the whole family can feel it. That’s why I focus not only on helping the individual find strength and resilience, but also on strengthening the family unit through connection, communication, and understanding.

My hope is that therapy feels like a place where you or your child can be yourself, feel supported, and begin to recognize the strengths you already have while developing the tools to navigate whatever comes next.

We have some exciting news to share, but first, Mirissa wanted to add her two cents (of course she did 😂).

I met Katie long before either of us knew what we wanted to be when we grew up. We worked together at Head Start, where I was her “mean boss.” Neither of us had it all figured out back then, but I was in school for social work, and I was convinced Katie had it in her DNA too. I think us social workers can smell it on each other.

She’ll tell you I forced her into this career, and honestly? She’s not wrong. But what Katie has built since then is entirely her own. She has worked hard, grown into an incredible therapist, and become a rock star in her own right.

This work is not for the faint of heart- it’s heavy, and some days it’s really hard. So call me selfish, but Katie is exactly who I want around when things feel overwhelming. She is a phenomenal therapist and an even better human, and I couldn’t be more excited to have her back in my day-to-day.

Please join us in giving Katie a warm welcome to Inclusive Medical Group - we are thrilled to call her ours. Stop by this Friday for our Open House, meet her in person, and see exactly what I’m talking about.

You’ve heard us talk about the therapy side of things, but today we want to shine a light on the other half of Inclusive Medical Group: our co-owner, Michelle.

Michelle is a pelvic floor physical therapist, a super mom, and the glue that holds this whole operation together. While the rest of us are busy doing our thing, Michelle is quietly running the show behind the scenes, keeping the business moving, the details in order, and all of us on track. She’s the brains behind the business and in all honesty, we couldn’t do any of this without her.

Pelvic floor PT is one of those specialties that doesn’t always get the attention it deserves, but the work Michelle does changes lives. If you’ve ever wondered whether pelvic floor therapy might be right for you, she’s your person.

Come meet this beauty (and brainiac!) at our Open House on Friday.

Hey, I'm Mirissa, licensed therapist, practice owner, and Woodward native who somehow ended up building something I'm really proud of here.

I'm half of the duo that runs Inclusive Medical Group, where we offer play therapy, EMDR, and pelvic floor physical therapy all under one roof. I've spent the last eight years doing this work in community mental health and inpatient settings. Many people think their problems are too big, scary, or distressing, but I am here to reassure you that is not the case. I've heard a lot, seen a lot, and I genuinely don't rattle easily.

My approach is pretty laid back. I show up curious, trauma-informed, and genuinely invested in your story. You set the goals and pace. We figure out the rest together.

I'm also working toward my AASECT certification in s*x therapy, so if that's something you've been too scared to bring up somewhere else, you can bring it here.

In my spare time you can catch me hanging out with my dogs, going to music festivals, or roadtripping to some off-the-wall place. And if you see me out and about, I probably have some poor soul hemmed up trying to get their life story. I've been curious about people since I was little. Turns out you can make a career out of that.

If something here resonates, reach out.
