How much time have you spent hoping your co-parent will finally understand, change, or see things your way?

Here’s the hard part: you don’t get to change them. But that doesn’t mean you’re powerless.

You can change how you respond. What you tolerate. Where you place your energy. The boundaries you set.

And when you stop putting so much energy into managing someone else and bring that focus back to yourself, things begin to shift.

Not necessarily because they changed, but because you did 💚

Sometimes keeping your child out of the middle means choosing very carefully what doesn’t need to be said ❌

When you’re left delivering disappointing news after your co-parent has already created an expectation, it can be tempting to explain exactly how you ended up in that position. To correct the story. To make sure your child knows this wasn’t your fault.

But those details belong between the adults.

You can acknowledge your child’s disappointment, communicate what they need to know, and save the frustration with your co-parent for a conversation that doesn’t involve them.

Not every truth needs to be shared with your child. Sometimes protecting them from adult conflict matters more than proving your side of the story.

When you feel like you’re all over the place, it’s easy to wonder, “Why am I reacting like this?”

But your body may simply be trying to protect you 💚

Stress can look like doing everything, planning, fixing, researching, reacting, or avoiding, withdrawing, and shutting down completely.

Instead of getting critical, get curious. What is my body doing right now, and what is it trying to help me with?

Learning to notice your nervous system gives you space to pause before you react.

Sometimes hate gets louder than love, and pretending you don’t feel it isn’t the same as healing.

In high-conflict co-parenting, anger and resentment can feel like they’re entirely about your ex. But sometimes, underneath it is hurt, fear, or the feeling that you’re not safe, not enough, or losing something that matters deeply to you 💚

Instead of turning that pain into another fight, get curious about what it’s trying to tell you.

Healing isn’t about “being nice” or ignoring what happened. It’s about learning to care for your own pain so it doesn’t keep driving the conflict, and so your kids don’t have to carry it either.

Sometimes the thing keeping you stuck isn’t the conflict itself, it’s the hope that eventually, the other person will change 😅

That they’ll finally understand. Finally apologize. Finally see things your way.

But what if your peace doesn’t require any of that?

Untying the knot is about recognizing what you can’t control and choosing to stop giving it so much of your time, energy, and attention. It’s not giving up, and it doesn’t mean you suddenly don’t care. It means shifting your focus back to your values, your boundaries, and the life you want to live 🫶🏻

You don’t need to win the conflict to win your life back. Sometimes moving forward begins when you finally drop the rope.

Reclaiming your power starts when you stop waiting for someone else to give it back to you 💚

If you’re still hoping your ex will finally appreciate everything you do or give you the approval you’ve been looking for, you’re putting your confidence in someone else’s hands.

What changes when you stop waiting?

You learn to recognize your own effort. Trust your own decisions. And become the person who can say, “I know I’m doing a damn good job.”

That’s the kind of power no one else gets to take away from you.

The teenage years can feel like a constant push and pull between “I can do it myself” and still needing you more than they’ll admit.

Your role starts to look a little different, but it doesn’t become less important.

Teens still need clear expectations and structure. They need connection and a sense of belonging. They need room to make choices, make mistakes, and figure out who they are, all while knowing there’s a steady parent in their corner.

You don’t have to get every moment right.

Stay calm. Stay clear. Stay connected. That steadiness may be exactly what your teen needs most 💚

Growth gets a lot easier when we stop expecting ourselves to get everything right the first time.

Maybe you tried setting a boundary and it didn’t land the way you hoped. Maybe you handled a difficult conversation differently, but still got pulled into an old pattern.

That doesn’t mean it didn’t work. It means you learned something.

What felt different? What would you change? What could you try next?

When we treat change like an experiment instead of a test, there’s no failing, just information that helps us adjust and keep moving forward.

Try. Notice. Adjust. Try again 💚

Tough conversations usually don’t go sideways because we didn’t find the “perfect” words 🫢

How we show up matters just as much as what we say.

Before walking into a difficult conversation, take a moment to check in with yourself. How do you typically respond to conflict? What really matters to you? What stories or assumptions are you bringing with you? And what do you need in order to stay grounded?

The more you understand yourself going into the conversation, the easier it becomes to communicate with clarity instead of simply reacting in the moment.

A little preparation can completely change the way a hard conversation unfolds 🤝

Real change in co-parenting takes courage and sometimes, courage looks like going first 1️⃣

Being the first to say, “I could have handled that differently,” or “We need to try something new” doesn’t mean you’re admitting defeat. It doesn’t mean the other person was right.

It means you’re willing to put down your pride long enough to look for a way forward.

So much conflict continues because everyone is waiting for the other person to change first. But breakthroughs have to begin somewhere 💚

Maybe your co-parent follows your lead. Maybe they don’t. Either way, you get to decide how you show up.

Your pride might tell you to hold your ground. Your kids need you to have the courage to find a way forward ➡️
