Meet the Team: Kathleen Epler 💬🌲

"Before someone enters therapy – we are not here to psychoanalyze you."

That's Kathleen. Licensed social worker. Trauma-certified. And refreshingly honest.

She loves the woods, a good lake, and pineapple on pizza (don't @ her). But what she really loves? Helping you build trust and find your way back to yourself.

She admits: therapists don't have all the answers. "Every individual is the person that knows themselves best."

You've got the answers. Kathleen just helps you uncover them. 💙

Men's Mental Health Awareness Month: Supporting Latino Men

At Betterview Counseling & Trauma Recovery, we understand that healing is not always easy especially when cultural expectations teach men to carry their struggles alone.

Many Latino men are raised with values of strength, hard work, and providing for their families. While these qualities are admirable, they can sometimes make it difficult to ask for help when facing stress, anxiety, depression, grief, or trauma.

The reality is that many Latino men experience mental health challenges but do not seek support due to stigma, fear of judgment, language barriers, or the belief that they must "handle it on their own."

This month, we encourage Latino men to break the silence, prioritize their well-being, and take the first step toward healing.

Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month

As a trauma recovery agency, we see every day how many men carry pain, grief, stress, trauma, and responsibility in silence.

From an early age, many men are taught to be strong, stay quiet, and push through difficult emotions. Unfortunately, that silence can often lead to increased anxiety, depression, isolation, substance use, and unresolved trauma.

The truth is:

Mental health is not a sign of weakness.
Seeking help is not a sign of failure.
Healing is one of the bravest things a person can do.

Trauma does not discriminate. It affects fathers, sons, brothers, husbands, friends, veterans, professionals, and community leaders. Yet many men delay seeking support because of stigma, cultural expectations, or the belief that they should handle everything on their own.

At Betterview Counseling & Trauma Recovery, we believe:

✔️ Real men talk.
✔️ Real men heal.
✔️ Real men ask for help when they need it.

A powerful reminder:

"You don't have to be perfect to be strong."

This month, we encourage men to check in with themselves, reach out to someone they trust, and remember that healing is possible.

Your trauma does not define you.
Your struggles do not make you weak.
Your story is still being written.

💙 Your mental health matters.
💙 Your life matters.
💙 You matter.

June is Men's Mental Health Awareness Month. 💙

"Everyone struggles – and men are no exception. It is definitely not a sign of weakness to ask for help." – Joe Cowell, Psychologist

The truth? Many men don't talk about real emotions. Everything is "fine" – but there's no depth. And that silence can be dangerous.

Isolation shows up differently for men. Angry. Irritable. Shutting down. Hiding in a bottle. Suffering alone.

The su***de rate for men is so much higher – because men keep it to themselves.

It's time to change that. 💪

👉 If you're struggling, reach out. Give us a call or visit our website.

💙 June is Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month 💙

Too often, men are taught to stay silent about their struggles. Strength is not hiding your pain—it’s having the courage to ask for support when you need it.

Mental health challenges affect men of every age, race, and background, but minority men often face additional barriers to care, including stigma, cultural expectations, and limited access to treatment.

📊 The Reality for Minority Men
▪️ Black men are less likely to receive mental health treatment despite experiencing mental health concerns.
▪️ Su***de rates among Black men continue to be a growing concern.
▪️ Approximately 1 in 3 Latino men report symptoms of depression but may not seek support due to stigma.
▪️ American Indian and Alaska Native men experience disproportionately high su***de rates compared to the national average.

You do not have to carry it alone.

✅ Talk to someone you trust
✅ Reach out for professional support
✅ Check in on the men in your life
✅ Remember that healing is possible

At Betterview Counseling & Trauma Recovery, we are committed to creating safe spaces where men can heal, grow, and thrive.

Mental Health Month may come to an end, but healing is not limited to a month on the calendar. At Betterview Counseling and Trauma Recovery, we believe healing is a lifelong journey of choosing yourself over and over again, especially on the hard days. 🤍

Healing is not about perfection. It’s about learning to give yourself grace, setting boundaries, finding your voice, and continuing the work even when progress feels slow.

As a counseling and trauma recovery agency, we want you to remember:

✨ You are allowed to start over.
✨ You are allowed to take up space in your healing.
✨ You are worthy of support, rest, and peace.
✨ Every small step forward matters.

The work you put into yourself today creates a stronger, safer, and more peaceful tomorrow. Therapy, self-care, community, advocacy, and healing all matter beyond Mental Health Month.

Keep investing in YOU. Your healing is valid. Your story matters. And you do not have to walk this journey alone. 💙
