That isn't true.

WHO states that asking someone if they are thinking about su***de does not make them act on those feelings. In fact, asking can help reduce anxiety and help the person feel understood.

That doesn't mean you have to know exactly what to say.

It means being willing to listen, take someone seriously and encourage appropriate professional support when needed.
