Long before the first foundation was laid, this land in Newlands had a story to tell.

In the early 19th century, the natural springs of Newlands made it one of Cape Town's great brewing destinations. One of the original breweries stood on this very site, shaping the industrial and social character of the Southern Suburbs. In time, the brewery gave way to something quieter: a private home, and later the beloved residence of Gwelo Goodman, one of South Africa's most celebrated impressionist painters.

Goodman found his inspiration in these surroundings. The light, the mountains, the gardens. That creative energy has never really left.

The Wytham Estate West Gate extension is taking shape, and we wanted to bring you along for a look at where things stand.

Last week the team was on site to check in on progress. The Mews homes are well underway, the indoor/outdoor pool is beginning to reveal its proportions, and the wellness centre walls are up and getting painted. Every visit to site is a reminder of how much thought has gone into how these spaces will feel to live in, not just how they will look.

West Gate will bring a gym, an indoor/outdoor swimming pool, and a wellness centre to the estate, all within the security and community of Wytham Estate by Manor Life in Upper Kenilworth.
