Every relationship experiences conflict. What matters most isn't avoiding disagreements altogether. It's what happens afterwards.

Repair is the ability to come back together after a difficult moment. To acknowledge when we've been hurt, misunderstood, reactive, or defensive, and to reconnect with curiosity and empathy.

The strongest relationships aren't the ones that never struggle. They're the ones where both people learn how to find their way back to each other.

If you're finding yourselves stuck in the same arguments, relationship counselling can help you understand the cycle and build new ways of reconnecting.

If you overthink, there is usually a reason.

Many people assume overthinking means they're weak, anxious, or doing something wrong. More often, overthinking is a form of protection.

Your mind may be trying to prevent hurt, rejection, disappointment, or failure. It may be attempting to stay one step ahead of situations that have felt unpredictable in the past.

While overthinking can become exhausting, it often starts as an effort to keep you safe.

Understanding the function of overthinking is often the first step towards changing it. Counselling can help.

Most relationships don’t break because of one big moment.
They’re shaped by the patterns that happen in the small moments over time.

A trigger happens → we react → we either move towards repair or further disconnection.

So often, the issue underneath isn’t the problem itself… it’s whether both people feel emotionally safe enough to stay connected through it.

Awareness of your patterns creates choice.
And choice creates change.

If you notice yourselves getting stuck in the same cycles, counselling can help you slow things down, understand what’s happening underneath the surface, and learn healthier ways of reconnecting.

Why your partner says no to couples counselling matters.

Sometimes it’s not that they don’t care. It might be fear, embarrassment, defensiveness, uncertainty, or worry that they’ll be blamed.

Try framing it as support, not blame:

“I don’t want us to keep feeling stuck. I’d like some help understanding each other better.”

Couples counselling isn’t about deciding who is the problem. It’s about understanding the pattern and finding a better way through it.

Do you tend to shut down during conflict?

Shutting down isn’t about not caring.
It’s usually about feeling overwhelmed and not knowing how to stay present.

So the system goes quiet and pulls back.

To a partner, this can feel like distance or rejection. More often than not, it’s protection.

This is a really common pattern in relationships.
And it’s something that can be understood and worked through.

This is something many couples learn to navigate with the right support.

If the state of the world has been weighing on you lately, you're not alone. Are you finding it hard to switch off from the news? Feeling anxious about things you can't control? That's your nervous system doing exactly what it's designed to do. I've written about why these worries are so common right now, and how counselling can help.

Over the past few years many people have noticed a growing sense of unease about the world. News about global conflict, rising costs of living, climate concerns and economic uncertainty can leave people feeling anxious, overwhelmed, or constantly on edge. You might notice yourself thinking about the....

When the world feels uncertain, it’s normal for our minds to start imagining worst case scenarios.

Many people are currently feeling anxious about the future, rising costs, and global events. Yet these worries often stay private. You don’t have to carry those worries alone.

I’ve written a blog about uncertainty, catastrophising, and how counselling can support you through times like this.

‘Two things can be true’…something my clients hear often.
Life is rarely either/or.
It’s usually both/and.
Counselling can help identify this black and white thinking, and help you move forward with self compassion.

One of the biggest barriers to counselling? Time.

There’s no single “right way” to access support. Some people prefer in-person sessions, others feel more comfortable online, and many appreciate a mix of both. Hybrid counselling offers flexibility, choice, and a way to make therapy genuinely fit your life.

This approach can be especially helpful for busy individuals and couples navigating busy schedules. This blog post explores how these approaches can help.

Counselling that fits into real lifeLife is busy. Between work, parenting, health, mental load, and everyday responsibilities, finding time for counselling can feel like just another thing on an already full list.Online and hybrid counselling sessions offer a flexible, effective way to access suppor...
