Hi to all from the Team at Mental Health Partners,

This week we will be discussing the Reasoning Domain of Personal Resilience. Reasoning follows on from Composure because it is all about problem solving and resourcefulness and thinking through stress. Reasoning contains our critical thinking skills, as well as an often-overlooked aspect about resilience- proactiveness.
Reasoning has four skills and they are Prevention, Ingenuity, Insight and Agility. Prevention means you are able to Anticipate Challenges by identifying risk, planning ahead and acting ahead of time. I do this by seeing myself in a situation and planning for any potential problems that may arise. Ingenuity is being resourceful; it's being able to solve problems in unexpected ways. Like having a mentor to turn too or being really good at searching for the information you need on search engines etc.
Insight refers to your ability to challenge your own belief's by reflecting and considering different perspectives, through deeper self-examination. I have done this by looking at my thought disorders and challenging myself. People who live with Mental Health have very distorted thinking and in order to be well, those like me have to challenge that. That is why Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is the number one therapy for depression and anxiety.
Personal Agility means you have the capacity to embrace change, because there is always change. For this to work for me I have tried to look at change like a flowing river. Water just flows, picture the rocks as things that come up in your life, good and bad. The water flows over and around but does not stop. I suppose this is where the term "Just Go with the Flow" comes from, but it has definitely helped me in my life.

Hi to all from the team at Mental Health Partners

HOW?

When I look at how we do I see a variety of positive things,
& some negatives.

I heard from someone this week a good way to deal with negatives -
With credit to them -

If you see a negative DO two positives.

So HOW has this changed me this week?

Well now when I see a negative, I do TWO positives, for example -
I was working on Some new software to help us deliver more effective learnings to all of our community, and it was not doing what I thought it should, VERY ANNOYING!!!!!!!

A Negative - had appeared in my day.
I thought OK a negative I'll try to DO two Positives.
So I -
1. Asked others if they new
2. Asked owners of the product to help

OUTCOME - Solution to the annoyance, and moving forward.

A Resilient way to think -
See Composure, Collaboration & Tenacity!

Hi to all from the Team at Mental Health Partners,

Last time we looked at Vision in my Personal Resilience Journey. This week we will discuss Composure and why it was an area I really needed to work on. The four areas of composure are, (1) I can calm myself at will, (2) I can understand and manage emotions, (3) I can enjoy the moment without judgement and (4) I can find the silver lining in any situation. So, why do we need to stay Composed? Well, health maintains a good body, vision gives us direction and composure allow us to deal with any situation we may find distressing. This was important to me because I didn't react very well to stress or stressful situations. Which then put me in a situation where my depression could get worse and I would become unwell.
By working on the four areas of Composure, I was able to increase my overall Personal Resilience score. Firstly, I learnt how to control my breathing when things were getting tough, by trying Box Breathing. Just Google "Box Breathing" to find out how. For me, this was a game changer, because it allowed me to calm myself at will, my will! By controlling my breathing, it then allowed me to manage my emotions. By not going into Fight or Flight response and activating my Limbic System, I stayed calmer and in control.
Not being in Limbic Activation then let me enjoy moments without judgment, you know, those times when you beat yourself up about almost everything. I now try to find the silver lining in all situations, and combining all four areas of Composure allows me to do this. I am by no means perfect, but increasing my Personal Resilience in this area has certainly been beneficial to maintaining good Mental Fitness. Remember, my first score was 42/100 and is now 76/100, and this was the reason my last depressive episode only last for two weeks, not two years.

HI to all from the team at Mental Health Partners

WHY?
What is your WHY?

Is that even a good question?

When I look at the outcomes of what we do, I see the Reasons I get up each morning.
I see the passion of my community to improve.
I see individuals making massive differences in their and others lives.

But is this my WHY?

NO

My why is more of a what, when, how!

What will I do, actually do, not just say I will.
When will I do it and make myself accountable!
How will I do it, and measure the impact.

Ask yourself, what is your WHY?
Maybe it is not a why at all, like me, maybe you're a what, when, how person?

This is a resilient outlook,
What - See Vision and Collaboration
When - see Composure, Tenacity
How - see Reasoning, Health.

Hi to all from the Team at Mental Health Partners,

Last time I talked about the Health Domain of Personal Resilience. Today I am going to talk about Vision. If Health is the Foundation of Resilience, then Vision is our Guide. Vision is all about Purpose, what drives us and what gets us out of bed in the morning. This was also an area I needed to improve on.
Firstly, I didn't really know my purpose, losing myself in Sep 2022 from another episode of depression was the cause. Purpose gives us drive and my purpose now is "To use my Lived Experience to Educate others and to Save Lives". Then I needed to set meaningful goals that are related to my Life Purpose. For e.g. Goals which relate to education and the subject matter we teach. I am also part of our Marketing Team, so business goals to improve the business etc. When I had my Goals set, I needed to Prioritize my goals so I understand which one's are important and those that can wait if necessary. Goals also need to be congruent and work together, across all the domains. There is absolutely no point having a goal to be healthy but one where your work goals - make you unwell.
The last part of Vision is understanding your needs, making sure your vision and goals work with what you want. When your Vision and your Goals work together and you know what's important to you, decisions become easier. You tend not to sweat on the small stuff, as it doesn't really affect where you're heading. This is why next time; I am going to talk about Composure and why the Composure Domain was big for me.

HI to all from the team at Mental Health Partners

Starting a resilience Journey

When we discuss resilience with people some say we don't have the time to invest?
We would argue that you can't afford not to invest!

However, we do know that some people are time poor.
So, we have programs that can let people start their resilience journey, from as little as 1 - 2 hours without leaving their office, and for as little as $100.

Resilience is all about Prevention of Issues related to mental health, Advancing, Despite, Adversity!
One of the main things we teach is GET Started, don't wait until the time or situation is perfect, as this is a sure way to fail, as no time or situation is perfect.
JUST START, start by doing small things consistently and repetitively!

If you would like to know how, then let us know!

The RFAST workshop covers mental health prevention, emerging therapies, and new approaches. It emphasises psychosocial hazard awareness, the concept of Connected Resilience, and the six resilience domains with their highs, lows, and risk factors. Additionally, it helps you identify your strengths an...

Hi to all from the Team at Mental Health Partners,

Last time I talked about my Personal Resilience and how I used that to stop a Panic Attack. I have talked about the 6 domains of Resilience, Health, Vision, Composure, Reasoning, Collaboration and Tenacity. Personal Resilience is a journey, not a destination, it's about continually working on which domain needs attention.
Let's start with Health, the reason why? Health is the foundation domain of Resilience, as the saying goes, "without your health you have nothing!" The four areas of our Health that we work on are Sleep, Nutrition, Exercise and Health Views and Goals. My health score when I started was low and needed some work. So, I went about breaking it down and working out what I could do differently.
Sleep, I wasn't getting quality sleep at night, and I needed to change a few things. After speaking to my mentor Dave, I decided I needed to stop caffeine six hours before bed. Then I developed my sleep routine, which is going to bed around the same time and getting up around the same time. From 8:30 pm at night, I rest my mind, so activity which will activate my mind e.g. being on my phone!! I collaborated with my wife to make sure we don't take on emotional subjects before bed.
Nutrition, I wasn't getting enough Fruit and Veg in my diet, now I regularly have 5 serves per day. I started having apples and bananas for lunch and stopped having sandwiches, which cut my bread/carb intake. Being diagnosed as Type 2 Diabetes helped me lower my sugar and watch the carbs as well.
Exercise, well I'm 56, I am not going to be running marathons or going to the gym. My best advice for this one, find something suitable for your body, that you like doing! Only then will you do it consistently and often. As building Personal Resilience is about doing "Small Thing's more Consistently". For me, there's nothing better than running around with the Grandkids for 20mins, gets the heart rate up and the time flies. Setting some goals and doing them consistently, enabled me to improve my Health Score.
If you would like to find out more, then contact us at the link below and start your Personal Resilience journey!! Next up we will look at Vision.
