Once someone is a bit more experienced in the gym, we move towards lower reps on some exercises, like deadlift.
Why?
- it’s hard to do heaps of reps of compound exercises as they are tiring and require lots of focus . Hard to hold form for lots of reps.
- it is more time efficient to do less reps
- it does allow heavier weights to be lifted, which has value for bones, but also for feeling powerful 😎😎😎
To only do 3-5 reps, the weight has to be hard enough to make it worthwhile. If you only lift a weight 5 times that you could lift 10-15, it probably doesn’t make sense.
However, for people new to lifting, and getting used to these weights and ideas, lifting higher reps OR lifting low reps with a weight that’s a bit too light is a thing we do.
Clients have say as well. Terror of heavier weights is hard to shake, so we take it step by step.
