When the clouds roll low over Belair and the rain taps gently against the windows, it is all about warmth and comfort inside our home.

It is the kind of weather made for slowing down, settling into a cosy armchair, watching the fire crackle, and enjoying a warm, hearty winter stew made fresh by our chef. 🍲🔥

It's a lovely reminder of how comforting it is to be safe, warm, and surrounded by a gentle community when the weather turns cold.

No matter how grey it is outside, there is always plenty of warmth to be found here.

We love a good birthday milestone, but Joan’s 85th celebration at Kalyra Woodcroft really took a wild turn! Her wonderful family treated everyone to a special wildlife visit, bringing a whole crew of unique creatures into our lounge room.

From slithering snakes, iguanas and a baby alligator, to tiny sugar gliders and a delightfully cuddly possum, it was an afternoon full of big smiles and plenty of laughter.

Our CEO, Sara Blunt, recently attended a 'Painting for Healing' workshop with Aunty Ros at Tiwi Kumangaka (Blackwood Library and Community Centre).

Reflecting on the afternoon, Sara shared: "I attended as part of our Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) and had a wonderful afternoon with a group of fascinating people. Aunty Ros told us her story, which to my mind embodies reconciliation and brings it to life in a tangible way."

Ros Cameron is a proud Aboriginal woman, a member of the Stolen Generation, and a incredibly talented artist. She uses her lived experience, traditional knowledge, and art therapy to bridge understandings across generations.

At Kalyra, we are on an active journey to reconcile our history with our core purpose, creating communities where people feel they truly belong and enhancing life. Our RAP is a vital tool helping us listen, learn, and grow. We are incredibly excited to work with Aunty Ros in the future, bringing her powerful storytelling and 'Painting for Healing' workshops directly to the Kalyra community.

Winter has officially arrived, and while the temptation to curl up under a blanket is strong, staying active and socially engaged is one of the best things we can do for our health as we age.

It isn't just about "keeping busy"—there are significant physiological and mental benefits to stepping out of the house, even when the air is crisp.

Are you letting these common myths stop you from living your best life?

At Kalyra, we believe that the right support should empower you rather than restrict you. Our Help at Home services are all about providing the practical help you need to stay in the home you love.

Meet the team behind the menu at McLaren Vale.

Our kitchen at McLaren Vale is a hive of activity where fresh meals and community spirit come together every day. Head Chef Matt leads a dedicated team committed to providing high quality nutrition for our residents and the broader community.

The team has a significant impact beyond our walls. Each day they prepare around 30 sets of meals for Meals on Wheels. Here you can see Hospitality Assistant Emma preparing today’s service, which includes a nourishing hot soup, a delicious hot main course and a sweet dessert to ensure local community members can stay healthy and independent at home.

Back on-site, the team is also busy ensuring our Residential Aged Care and Retirement Village residents enjoy fresh and flavourful dining experiences. From carefully plating a favourite meal to ensuring every dietary requirement is met, our hospitality team plays a vital role in making Kalyra feel like home.

At Kalyra, we believe that independence is not about where you live but how you live. Providing nutritious, locally prepared meals is just one way we help our community members maintain their wellbeing and enjoy life on their own terms.

It was great to see everyone getting involved in a bit of music and movement during the seated dance class at our McLaren Vale location recently. This is just one of the many activities on offer for our community to enjoy.

Beyond the smiles, these classes are a great way for our community members to stay active, improve coordination and enjoy a bit of social time together. It is always good to see everyone catching up over some music.

We are delighted to share that Kalyra CEO Sara Blunt was recently joined by Catherine Hutchesson MP to celebrate our successful Grants for Seniors application for 2025 and 2026.

This funding supports our newest project, Wellbeing Across Generations: Mind, Movement and Meaning. This initiative connects our residents with students from Southern Montessori Middle School through shared experiences designed to nurture emotional wellbeing and reduce isolation.

At Kalyra, we believe that independence is not about where you live but how you live. By celebrating ageing as a vibrant stage of life, we continue to build a community where every individual feels they truly belong.

We look forward to showcasing this project during South Australia’s Week of Ageing Well this October.
