Book of the Month!

How to Rest by Vicki Vrint explores what true rest actually looks like beyond just sleep or switching off. It offers practical ideas for slowing down, managing overwhelm and creating healthier habits in a world that constantly encourages us to stay busy.

A thoughtful read for anyone feeling burnt out, emotionally exhausted or needing permission to pause.

Talia celebrates 5 years at Ivory Health!!

Talia joined the team during COVID and has been part of so many changes along the way — including our move from Blackburn. It’s been a big five years for both the practice and the team, and we’re grateful to have had her here through it all.

A huge thank you to Talia for all of her work and support over the years. Congratulations on this milestone!

There’s no perfect way to navigate big emotions, conflict, or shutdowns—but there are small shifts that can make things feel more connected and manageable.

Regulation often starts with the adult in the room. When we pause and respond from a calmer place, it helps co-regulation happen more easily.

Many teen behaviours are communication, not defiance. Behind them is often overwhelm, stress, or unmet needs.

Connection before correction, validation before problem-solving, and flexibility during high-stress moments can all help reduce tension and build trust.

And importantly, repair after conflict matters just as much as getting it right in the moment.

Small, consistent changes can make a big difference over time.

Our receptionist for the day.

Always calm, always patient… and clearly very comfortable in front of the camera.

You’ll find our therapy dog keeping a quiet watch over the reception room—offering a friendly presence, a gentle distraction, and maybe even a wag of encouragement before your session.

When parenting a neurodivergent teenager, it’s easy to focus on what’s visible—behaviours, challenges, or what others might expect. But so much of your child’s world exists beneath the surface: their effort, their overwhelm, their unique way of experiencing and connecting.

This quote is a gentle reminder that the most important parts of your relationship aren’t always seen—they’re felt. Safety. Understanding. Acceptance.

Sometimes, supporting your teen isn’t about having the perfect response or fixing the moment. It’s about sitting beside them, tuning into their experience, and letting them know: I see you, I’m here, and you don’t have to navigate this alone.

Because feeling understood can be more powerful than anything we can say or do

Our book of the month is Your Life Your Way — a relatable, teen-friendly guide to understanding emotions and building resilience using Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).

It gently supports young people to navigate big feelings, handle tricky thoughts, and learn that they don’t have to get rid of discomfort to move forward. Instead, it focuses on practical skills to help teens stay grounded, make choices that reflect their values, and build confidence in who they are.

You’ll find it in our waiting room this month—perfect for teens (and parents) to flick through and explore together.
