Two days. Endless inspiration. Countless ideas coming back to Gameplan!

Bronte and Emma had an incredible time at the Speech Pathology Australia 2026 Conference, learning from some of Australia's leading clinicians and researchers. We're excited to bring these ideas back to our clients, families and schools.

BRONTE's TOP 3 presentations! 💬
- Collaborative communication: Enhancing SLP reports for educational impact with Sharon Klieve and Dr Hannah Stark.
- Measuring the language of the law: benchmarking legal vocabulary knowledge in adolescents with Dr Rebecca Armstrong.
- Minimally Speaking children: sparking joy through connection-based practice with Jade Telfer

EMMA's TOP 3 presentations! 💬
- They said "teach clusters" - here's how: Practical strategies for implementing the complexity approach with Rebecca Reinking.
- Building firm foundations: designing early years systems to promote robust and equitable language development with Professor Cristina McKean.
- Language intervention for children with Developmental Language Disorder: Implications for health funding reform with Dr Shaun Ziegenfusz.

We're looking forward to sharing what we've learned with the rest of the team and, most importantly, putting it into practice to better support the children and families we work with.
💙 Continuous learning is one of our favourite parts of being speech pathologists.

Another day of tiny moments that add up to something big. 💛
Time to pack it all away... and do it all again tomorrow.

Looks like simple sentence writing...👀
But it's actually teaching how language works.

Every sentence is building:
🧠 Sentence structure (syntax)
💬 Grammar
📚️ Language comprehension
✍️ Sentence generation
🔤 Verb endings (-s, -ed)
🧩 Working memory

By making the building blocks of language visible, children begin to recognise patterns they can use in speaking, reading and writing.

Research consistently shows that explicit language instruction is one of the most effective ways to support children with language and literacy difficulties.
Sometimes the most powerful therapy isn't false.

It's making language visible.

Evidence-based and neuroaffirming? Always.
Serious? ...Not always. 😂
Joy and a good laugh are pretty important too.

Writing is one of the few activities that simultaneously strengthens multiple foundations of literacy.

When children write, they must:
- hear and analyse speech sounds (phonology)
- retrieve vocabulary and ideas (language)
- organise words into sentences (grammar)
- connect sounds to letters (spelling)
- build accurate word representations for reading.

This means writing isn't just an outcome of literacy development - it actively drives it. Every sentence requires children to coordinate speech sounds, language, spelling and reading at the same time.

That's one reason why research consistently finds that explicit spelling and writing instruction can have a powerful impact on reading development.

Speech. Language. Reading. Spelling.
They're not separate systems. They're all connected 🔄

Messy hands. Big thinking.
Oobleck experiments are so much more than a science activity. Through play, curiousity and shared problem-solving, children build perspective-taking, communication, teamwork and emotional regulation, all in ways that are joyful, safe and genuinely engaging.

When children feel connected, magic happens✨️
