Could damaged vision one day be restored? 🔬

For decades, glaucoma treatment has focused on slowing the disease. Now researchers are exploring new possibilities, including ways to protect and repair the optic nerve.

Professor Jonathan Crowston and his team are investigating the changes that happen to optic nerve cells in people with glaucoma. Their work suggests some of these changes may be reversible.

That could open the door to a new generation of treatments, ones that go beyond slowing glaucoma and move towards restoring vision.

Your support of the Quinlivan Research Appeal helps Australian researchers continue this vital work.

Every discovery brings us closer to a future with less glaucoma blindness. đź’™

Today is Allied Health Professions Day, recognising the contribution allied health professionals make to healthier communities across Australia.

This year’s theme, “Allied health: For everyone, everywhere,” reflects the role allied health professionals play in supporting accessible care across diverse communities and settings.

As part of Australia’s allied health workforce, optometrists play an important role in protecting vision, supporting eye health and connecting patients with the care they need throughout their lives.

Optometry Australia is proud to celebrate our profession alongside the broader allied health community.
