Introducing Brad Fennell — Counsellor & Psychotherapist

Many of you will know Brad. He's my husband, and together we founded Studio Qi over 25 years ago, practising alongside each other as acupuncturists from the very beginning. Those of you who saw him will remember that his sessions were never quite just acupuncture. The psychological dimensions of health, the stories we carry in our bodies, the patterns that keep repeating, were always where his real curiosity lived.

When we closed during Covid, Brad moved his work online and leaned fully into that direction. He completed further studies in Western counselling and psychological approaches, and this year finished his Master of Counselling at Edith Cowan University, adding to his Bachelor of Science in Acupuncture and 25 years of study in Process-Oriented Psychology (Process Work), a depth approach that follows the body, dreams, and relationships as guides to what's trying to emerge in a person's life.

Thirty years across multiple healing traditions. His very human focus: helping people understand themselves more fully and live more freely.

Brad works online with individuals and couples. For couples, he focuses on the recurring patterns that tend to surface in relationships, the same arguments, the same disconnections, and helps partners understand the deeper dynamics, often inherited long before they ever met, that are quietly running the show.

For individuals, men and women, he works with things like depression, anxiety, a sense of being stuck, or simply a feeling that life isn't quite tracking with who you actually are. His approach isn't about fixing. It's about understanding what's underneath and working with it rather than against it.

I'm obviously biased, but I've watched him do this work for a long time and he's genuinely really good at it. If something here resonates with you, or you think it might suit someone you know, reach out to him at bradfennell.com.

With love,
Tabitha

I’m not against achieving. It might be an important part of your journey. But what I’ve noticed is that in the end, it probably won’t be the thing that matters most. What seems to matter more is who you loved, and who loved you in return.

Winter time rejuvenation and repair here some steps to follow to help you through this lovely time of year.

Rest where you can or go to bed earlier.
Eat foods that nourish our blood and bones like stews and broths, get your slow cooker out and create simple delights that the body can easily absorb.
Eat root veggies and leave the cold salads out.
Its Kidney time so you must not forget your water intake which is easy done when we are not sweating as much, include herbal teas or just warm water to supplement this 1.5 litre intake a day.
Kidney time is at 5pm to 7pm in TCM so if your lower back aches or you feel as the saying goes, 'bone tired" during this time then rest is your key.
Legs up the wall or () is an amazing yoga pose to regenerate the kidneys as it pools the blood into this area, 5 to 10 minutes at the end of the day would be fabulous.
Exercise does not need to be hard core, so walking or gentle yoga, no pushing is the key here.
Keeping your feet warm is essential as the kidney meridian starts at the soul of your feet and if your feet are always cold this strains your kidney energy and will effect your base energy. The cold will go up your meridians and lodge in your lower back or if you're a woman it can Lodge in your uterus causing period pain or fertility issues for some .
Don't push through being cold ,stay warm and allow your body to go internal and repair.
Enjoy this beautiful change of weather and find things that take you within.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine theory, Hōjicha (Roasted green tea) is generally considered a warming, gentle, and less stimulating tea compared with most green teas.

Because Hōjicha is roasted, TCM-style interpretations often describe it as:

Less “cold” in nature than standard green tea
Mildly warming or neutral
Easier on the Spleen and Stomach Qi

Helpful for people with: weak digestion, dampness/cold tendencies, sensitivity to caffeine, bloating after raw/cold foods.

The extra bonus is that it's very lovely to drink.
Give it a try and Enjoy!!

elcome to Autumn.

Change is wonderful! A new season, new energy, and new adventures are all in store!

I really think that Autumn is the most overlooked season of the year. We associate summer with fun, holidays, the beach, and relaxation, Winter with hot chocolates, fireplaces, hot baths and Spring with new growth, fertility and birth. But what do we associate with Autumn?

Autumn represents a new start. It is a time to let go of negativity. Leaves turn brown and drop, ready for new green growth. The Lungs and Large Intestine are the organs with the most abundant energy in this season. The Large Intestine is literally responsible for eliminating waste from the body and the Lungs are filters for the positive and pure energy that we breath into our bodies.

This season is a great time to get rid of possessions you don’t need, let go of resentment and jealousy, resolve issues or learn to let them go.

And don’t forget to......breathe

1. It’s over 2,000 years old
TCM has been practiced for thousands of years and is still widely used today alongside modern medicine.

2. Balance is everything
TCM is based on the idea of Yin and Yang—your body stays healthy when opposing forces are balanced (like hot/cold, rest/activity).

3. Your organs have a “body clock”
There’s something called the Chinese organ clock, where each organ is most active at certain times of day.
Example: the lungs are strongest early in the morning.

4. “Qi” is your life energy
TCM says your body runs on Qi (pronounced “chee”).
When Qi flows smoothly, you feel good—when it’s blocked, you may feel sick or tired.

5. Acupuncture points are very specific
Acupuncture uses hundreds of precise points on the body, and even tiny changes in needle placement can make a difference.

6. Food is considered medicine
In TCM, everyday foods are used to heal and balance the body, not just fill you up.
For example, some foods are considered “warming” and others “cooling.”

7. Seasons affect your body
Each season (like autumn) is linked to different organs and health patterns, so TCM changes advice depending on the time of year.

8. Emotions are linked to organs
TCM connects emotions to physical organs.
Example: stress affects the liver, grief affects the lungs.

We’re surrounded by advice.
Podcasts, reels, books, mentors, friends with opinions.

And while there’s value in other people’s wisdom and experience, here’s what most of us forget:
the greatest wisdom you’ll ever access already lives inside you.

Your nature knows. It always has.

But when you do find yourself drawn to someone else’s ideas or inspired by their path, which is also completely fine.
Just don’t forget to check in with yourself.

Notice what it does to you.
Does it energise you? Follow it.
Does it scare you? Explore it.
Does it bore you? Drop it.

Your internal feedback is the most important and honest advisor you’ll ever have.
Trust it. Trust you.
