🚨 Major update on Thriving Kids for private paediatric OT providers in NSW 🚨
Occupational therapy is absolutely central to the success of Thriving Kids. Yet the NSW Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ) has announced an EOI process that effectively blocks the majority of the OT workforce from participating.
According to the DCJ Thriving Kids procurement website, services will be delivered by NSW Government agencies and non government organisations (NGOs) commissioned by DCJ. Separate processes will apply for NSW Government agencies and for establishing arrangements with private providers “where required” — a position that raises serious concerns about whether private OTs will be meaningfully included.
More information is available here: https://dcj.nsw.gov.au/community-inclusion/disability-and-inclusion/thriving-kids.html
Occupational Therapy Australia is seeking urgent clarification from DCJ and is strongly advocating for this decision to be reconsidered. NGOs alone cannot deliver what has been promised to children and families across NSW. Excluding private OTs will limit access, compromise outcomes, and undermine the intent of Thriving Kids from the outset.
This is a shortsighted decision — and it needs to be fixed.
We are calling on NSW members to advocate with us directly to DCJ.
