"After completing the RACGP AIDA Academic Post in 2020 I have had so many opportunities to expand my career into medical education and research. My project on experiences of racism for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander GP trainees taught me so much about racism in medical training and GP workplaces, and about research methodologies. Since then, I was able to join the university as a long-term academic staff member in general practice and Aboriginal health teams. I have also been able to enrol in a PhD and continue my career goal of balancing clinical work with education and research. This post is a wonderful opportunity for learning and collaboration."

Dr Talila Milroy, 2020 Australian Indigenous Doctor's Association (AIDA) Academic Post holder

Today, on Mabo Day, we commemorate the legacy of Eddie Koiki Mabo and the historic decision that recognised the rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to our lands and waters.

πŸ’¬ "Mabo Day is about honouring those who came before us, those who've blazed the trail for us and empowering the next generation to be our leaders of tomorrow" says AIDA's newest Board Member, Dr Nathan Passi.

Dr Passi is a proud Torres Strait Islander doctor and descendant of the Passi family of Mer (Murray Island), connected to the landmark Mabo decision. He shares what Mabo Day means to him and encourages us to take the time to honour our histories.

Mabo Day is a time to reflect on our journeys of truth-telling, strength and the ongoing fight for justice, self-determination and equity for our Communities.
