What type of exercise is best for your bone health? ๐Ÿ’ช

A lot of everyday activites like gardening, walking, and housework just don't provide the skeletal system with enough load to make positive adpatations to bone health and density.

PROGRESSIVE RESISTANCE TRAINING: Strength based exercise that puts high load through the body.
Example exercises: Squats, Deadlifts, Rows, Overhead Press.
Amount: 3 sets of 5-8 reps at 70-85% of your one rep max at least 2 x a week.

PROGRESSIVE IMPACT EXERCISES: Movements thats put sudden shock and impact through the body.
Example exercises: Jumping, Stomping, Running, Skipping.
Amount: 10-50 impacts up to 2-4 x your body weight at least 2 x a week.

Last night as part of Exercise Right Week Josh presented on Osteoporosis and Exercise - Exercise is a key treatment modality of low bone density, and not all exercises are equal to benefit bone density. Josh went through what is osteoporosis, what contributes to osteoporosis, the risk factors and then the specific exercise that makes a difference in treating bone density.
