Knowing the things to say to kids can be challenging. Each month this year a one-liner, to have in your tool-box, will be shared that helps you connect with your kids as they grow and mature. These lines can be powerful and make them feel safe in a world that at times can feel anything but.

This month the line is……. “It’s OK not to be perfect”.

This statement can be a relief. Let kids know they don’t have to have it all figured out and that they will make mistakes.

Children generally find it easy to talk about what is happening in the here and now. However, they need help talking about the future because this requires a more abstract use of language.

You can use calendars to show what is coming up this week Vs next week Vs next month. This provides an opportunity to model the language we use when talking about the future. Another idea is listed in the below image.

This month the wacky word is:

“Interrobang” ……. a punctuation mark designed for use specifically at the end of an exclamatory rhetorical question. For example, "Are you serious‽"

It is so easy to be focussed on encouraging our id’s accomplishments. But it is more important to focus on their character.

Wacky Word of the Month!

This month the wacky word is:

“Agraffe” ……. a fastening consisting of a loop and hook, formerly used in armour and clothing. Also used to describe the metal cage around corks on wine bottles.

Here is another school holiday activity that can be done indoors.
It practices numbers, making guesses, problem solving and more!

Do you have a set of digital scales?
Choose items from around the house to weigh. Line them up in the weight order you predict, then test them out.
Write the answers on scrap paper as you re-arrange into the correct order after weighing.

Rhyming can help children recognise sounds in words, ultimately helping them expand their vocabulary and teach them how language works. It encourages them to find patterns in words that can help their reading and spelling skills.

*Rhyme dice are where you put different easily rhyme-able words on each side and attempt to make up words for each word.
