Complementary medicines are therapeutic goods that are often derived from traditional medicine practices. You may also have heard them called ‘herbal’ medicines or ‘traditional’ medicines.

They include medicines with ingredients such as vitamins, minerals, plant or herbal material, microorganisms and homoeopathic preparations. They can usually be purchased without seeing a doctor or pharmacist.

However, just because a medicine is available without a prescription, or claims to be ‘natural’ or ‘healthy’, doesn’t mean it’s safe for you. Medicines bought from overseas, imported for personal use, or bought online from overseas websites are not regulated by the Therapeutic Goods Administration - TGA and could contain lead.

There is no safe level of exposure to lead and it can be harmful to your health, particularly for pregnant women and children.

Talk to your doctor if you been taking complementary medicine and have any symptoms, including:
• headaches
• tiredness
• abdominal pain
• lack of appetite
• anaemia
• weakness in fingers, wrists, ankles and muscles
• high blood pressure
• seizures.

FLU SEASON IS HERE

Since June 1st alone, there have already been over 1,852 confirmed influenza cases here in SA and that's ONLY the ones reported through doctor visits. Thousands more cases are going untested and unreported. The risk is very real.

😷 Many people who feel unwell with flu-like symptoms never see a doctor or get tested — meaning the true number is far, far higher.

💉 The good news? YOU CAN PROTECT YOUR FAMILY.

Flu vaccination is recommended for ALL Australians aged 6 months and older. Looking at the latest SA coverage data (as of 30th May), vaccination rates still have a long way to go across every age group — especially in younger children and working-age adults.

Don't wait until someone in your household is knocked flat. Get vaccinated now.

📍 Contact us today online, via the AMS app or give us a call and book your appointment today.

✋ Rememeber the basics & always was your hands!

Thinking about washing your hands? The answer should always be yes.

One of the easiest ways to prevent the spread of infection is with thorough handwashing for at least 20 seconds with water and soap.

June is Bowel Cancer Awareness Month

Bowel cancer is Australia's second deadliest cancer, claiming the lives of over 100 Australians every week. The good news? Over 90% of bowel cancers can be successfully treated if detected early.

Regular screening saves lives. Ask your GP about the National Bowel Cancer Screening Program, available through the Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care. It could be the most important conversation you have this June.
