After her husband John died, she became concerned about living alone in Collina and decided it was time to downsize.
"I was worried that if something went wrong, no one would be there to help," she said.
"At first I thought maybe a duplex would be ideal, but then I got talking to one of the staff members at Griffith Retirement Estate who encouraged me to come and have a look. I was quite amazed."
She started off living in one of the larger properties, with three bedrooms.
While staff maintain properties, Mrs Piccoli felt it was still a bit much to handle.
"By nature, I'm the sort of person who is always finding something needing to be done," she said. "I wanted to reduce that pressure."
So, she looked at one of the estate's apartments and found it perfectly suited to her needs.
"I wouldn't want anything bigger," Mrs Piccoli said."Now being so close to everything means I'm always seeing someone when I'm out and about, which is a terrific social advantage."
She feels her quality of life has been enhanced tenfold.
"Just to think we have something like this in a country area - how lucky we are," she said. "I know John would be pleased to know that I'm in a place like this."
More than twenty years after the first resident arrived, our premium retirement estate was completed. This means there is no more construction.
