What if stretching isn't actually what your heel pain needs? 👀

You've tried stretching your calves, taking it easy and maybe even switching up your shoes.

It feels a little better for a while, but before you know it, that familiar heel pain is back.

Sound familiar?

While stretching can be a helpful part of managing heel pain, there's often more to consider than just muscle tightness.

Your feet manage a lot of load throughout the day, and several factors can contribute to ongoing discomfort:
✅ **How much you're doing.** Changes in walking, running, exercise or time spent standing can increase the demands on your feet.
✅ **How your feet move.** Foot and ankle function can influence how forces are distributed during everyday activities.
✅ **What you're wearing.** Footwear that doesn't suit your activity or individual needs may be contributing to your discomfort.
✅ **What's actually causing the pain.** Plantar fasciitis is a common cause of heel pain, but it's certainly not the only one.

At Posture Podiatry, we look at the bigger picture.

From understanding when your symptoms occur to assessing your foot and ankle function, we work to identify what may be contributing and which treatment options are appropriate for you.

Because there's no point endlessly stretching if you're missing another important part of the problem.

Still putting up with heel pain? Maybe it's time to find out what's really going on 🤝

When did looking after your feet become kinda chic?

Maybe it always was.

Foot pain can be easy to brush off, especially when you can still get through your day. You change shoes, walk a little less or tell yourself you’ll deal with it if it gets worse.

But you don’t have to wait for that point.

A podiatry assessment gives us the opportunity to take a closer look at what’s going on:
✅ Where your symptoms are coming from. We’ll ask about when the discomfort started, what brings it on and how it affects your day.

✅ How your feet move. Depending on your concern, we may assess your foot and ankle function, movement and walking pattern.

✅ What might help. From footwear and exercises to load management and other treatment options, recommendations are based on your individual assessment.

Sometimes looking after your feet starts with simply finding out why they’re sore.

So yes, booking the podiatry appointment you’ve been putting off is actually kinda chic 🤝

How many pairs of shoes have you tried, hoping your feet would stop hurting? 👟

Softer soles. More support. A more expensive brand.

When you’re uncomfortable, it’s understandable to keep searching for the “right” pair. But if the pain keeps returning, it may be time to find out what’s behind it.

Foot soreness can have several contributing factors, including your footwear, changes in activity, the demands of your work and an underlying foot condition.

An assessment helps us look at these together:
✅ Your symptoms. Where the pain is, when it started and what makes it better or worse.
✅ Your movement and daily routine. How your feet function and what you’re asking them to do throughout the day.
✅ Your footwear. Whether your shoes fit well and suit your feet and activities.

From there, we can discuss suitable options, which may include footwear changes, exercises or other treatment depending on what we find.

Before adding another pair to your collection, let’s give you a clearer idea of what your feet need.

5 Tips to Keep You Moving Better for Podiatry Week 2026👇

👉Inspect, Wash and Dry Daily:
Check feet daily and clean them with lukewarm water and mild soap. Dry them completely (especially the spaces between the toes) to prevent fungal infections and skin breakdown. Check your soles, heels, and between your toes daily for cuts, blisters, redness, or swelling so you can catch small issues early.

👉Wear Sensible Footwear:
Choose enclosed, well-fitting shoes with appropriate support, a low heel (under 2 cm), and enough room in the toe box so your toes can move naturally without rubbing. Choose the appropriate shoe for each activity.

👉Trim Nails Carefully:
Trim nails straight across or inline with your natural toe shape. Avoid cutting down edges as rough edges can lead to ingrown toenails and infection.

👉Keep Feet Mobile:
Regular exercise, stretching and strengthening of the foot and ankles can help to assist circulation, maintain flexibility and build intrinsic foot strength helping to keep you moving better for longer.

👉See a Podiatrist:
A good Podiatrist can help with foot pain, heel pain relief, shin soreness, knee pain and aching legs. Get your feet and legs checked regularly to ensure your feet last a lifetime.

That foot pain you keep brushing off? We’d like to hear about it!

“It’s only sore after work.”

“I’ve just stopped going on long walks.”

“I thought it was something I had to live with.”

If any of these sound familiar, you don’t have to wait until your feet stop you in your tracks to ask for help.

We assess feet every day, and there are three things we want you to know before your appointment:

✅ Tell us the little things. When it hurts, what makes it worse and what you’ve stopped doing because of it. You don’t need to know what’s wrong, that’s what the assessment is for.

✅ Bring the shoes you actually wear. Your work shoes, trusty trainers, or everyday favourites help us understand what your feet are doing outside the clinic.

✅ Tell us what you want to get back to. Walking the dog, playing sport or finishing a shift more comfortably. Those goals help us plan your care around your life.

Swipe through for the 3 reminders worth saving, and if you’ve been putting your feet last, let’s start with a conversation.

That first step out of bed shouldn't be something you dread.

If your heel hurts when you first stand up, plantar fasciitis may be the cause.

But here's the important part: heel pain isn't always caused by plantar fasciitis or one single problem.

Your activity levels, footwear, foot mechanics, work load, training load, and the way your feet are handling everyday movement can all play a role.

Rather than simply putting up with the pain, it's worth finding out what the true cause is.

Experiencing persistent heel pain?
A podiatry assessment can help identify the likely cause and the best treatment options so you can get on with life without heel pain.

Here's how we can help: https://posturepodiatry.com.au/plantar-fasciitis-questions-answered/

Podiatrists have expert knowledge and training in plantar fasciitis treatment. They are registered health professionals dedicated to problems with the feet and legs.

“But I don’t have flat feet… why would I need orthotics?” 👀

It’s a fair question. Orthotics are often associated with flat feet, but their role goes beyond supporting an arch.

They can help redistribute pressure, reduce strain on certain structures and make movement more comfortable. The focus is on what your feet need, not simply how they look when you’re standing still.

That’s why an assessment involves more than checking your arch. We consider your symptoms, how you walk, your footwear and the activities you want to get back to.

And no, an appointment doesn’t automatically mean you’ll leave needing orthotics. We’ll talk through whether they have a place in your treatment plan and what other options may suit you.
