A day where the world celebrates PLAY as much as Play Therapists do every day 🩷

Play is a child’s right. Play is what children need. Play is so much more than Play.

Protect Play. Protect Childhood.

🍔 Disclaimer: I did also manage to squeeze in some real food today. No play therapists were starved in the making of this reel 😂

A little reminder from Lawrence J. Cohen that sometimes connection looks like sitting on the floor, being silly, building cubbies, pushing cars, colouring in, or having a tea party.

Play is how children connect, communicate, and feel seen. 🤍

Sometimes, the things I don’t do in the playroom are just as important as the things I do ☺️

Each of these choices is intentional - helping children build frustration tolerance, confidence, self-awareness, empathy, emotional regulation, problem-solving skills, autonomy, intrinsic motivation, and healthier relationships over time.

Do any of these surprise you?

Little nervous systems borrow from ours 💚

When you slow your voice, soften your body, and stay steady… their body starts to follow.

A little update 💛

Thank you so much for your patience with sessions, emails and socials while I navigate life one-handed at the moment (turns out hands are quite important 🫠). It’s been a slower pace than usual, and I’m so grateful for the kindness, flexibility, and understanding.

I’ll be back in the playroom later next week and can’t wait to see my little clients again 🤍

Play Therapy Week 2026 💛

At Play Out Loud, parent involvement is an intentional part of the play therapy process.

Regular parent sessions support shared understanding, skill-building, and reflection on progress, aligning with evidence that shows stronger and more sustained outcomes when caregivers are involved 👏🏻

Parents matter.

Play Therapy Week 2026 💛

The numbers do the talking. And for those of you who don’t speak “stats” this means that the average child who received play therapy did better than about 79% of the children who didn’t.

An effect size of 0.80 means that play therapy leads to real, meaningful change for our kids ❤️
