☀️ A friendly SunSmart reminder from Fun Nurse! ☀️
I spotted this Cancer Council SunSmart sign during my Fun Nurse session and thought it was the perfect reminder with summer on the way! 💛
Whether your little one attends daycare or school, building sun protection into their daily routine helps establish healthy habits for life.
🧴 Make sunscreen part of your morning routine, just like brushing teeth! Keeping it beside the toothbrushes can be a handy reminder. Choose SPF50+ broad-spectrum, water-resistant sunscreen, apply 20 minutes before heading outdoors and remember that morning application needs topping up—reapply every two hours when outdoors, and after swimming, sweating or towel drying.
💛 Does your child need a particular sunscreen because of allergies or sensitive skin? Let their educators know and provide a labelled bottle of their suitable sunscreen, following the centre or school’s policy.
👕 Choose clothing that covers their shoulders!
👒 Pack a labelled, broad-brimmed hat to help protect their face, ears and neck.
🌳 Seek shade and add sunglasses where practical. Sunscreen is only one part of keeping little ones protected!
📱 Check the UV, not just the temperature. Sun protection is needed whenever the UV reaches 3 or above—even on cooler or cloudy days.
💧 Keep water bottles topped up and encourage regular water breaks throughout the day, especially during outdoor play and warmer weather.
Our daycare centres and schools do such a fantastic job in Australia of encouraging SunSmart habits and reminding families about sun protection. This is simply a friendly reminder to support those efforts at home as the warmer days approach. ☀️
Stay SunSmart and stay safe throughout summer! 💛
