Most of us are carrying moments we are proud of alongside moments we would rather forget. The difficulty is not that both exist. The difficulty is learning how to hold them together without allowing either one to become the whole story.

Perhaps this is what integration really asks of us: not to rewrite our story, but to become willing to read all of it.

To understand the person we were without allowing that understanding to become permission, and to hold ourselves accountable without allowing that accountability to become lifelong condemnation.

That, to me, is integration.

It is not saying, "That wasn't me."

Nor is it saying, "That will always be me."

It is having the courage to say,

"That was me."

"And this is me too."

Respect is not contingent upon agreement, affection or even liking another person. We can profoundly disagree with someone while still recognising their humanity and choosing to treat them with dignity. Lately, I’ve been noticing a subtle shift in couples work.

Not necessarily driven by friends.
Or therapists.
Or even social media exactly.

But increasingly, by AI.

I’ve been thinking deeply about what happens when emotionally convincing AI responses begin shaping relational narratives during conflict — particularly when both people in the relationship may simultaneously be receiving reinforcement that they are “right.”

Not because AI is intentionally harmful.
But because emotionally coherent narratives can start to feel psychologically true very quickly, especially when we are hurt, overwhelmed, confused or longing for certainty.

This piece explores:
• AI and confirmation bias
• emotional certainty in relationships
• coercive control vs relational distress
• “AI sycophancy”
• and the growing difficulty of reality-testing inside modern conflict.

One line that stayed with me while writing it:

“AI does not actually know your relationship. It knows your description of your relationship.”
