Today we honour Dr Garry Landreth and the impact he made on the lives of so many. His kindness, dedication, and character will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him and learning from his works.

Thank you, Dr Landreth, for the legacy you leave behind. His loss will be felt throughout the Play Therapy community.

Some people leave a legacy that continues to ripple through generations. Dr Garry Landreth was one of those people.

This week, as we celebrate the power of play, we also take a moment to honour a man whose work helped countless children feel seen, heard, accepted, and understood. His influence lives on in playrooms around the world and in every therapist privileged to follow in his footsteps.

Thank you, Garry. Your gift to children will never be forgotten. 💜

Myth Busting with Lara at The Learning Brain

One of the most common misconceptions about Child-Centered Play Therapy is that children are “just playing.” In reality, play is how children communicate, process experiences, explore relationships, and move toward healing and growth.
Child-Centered Play Therapy recognises that children often lack the developmental capacity to express complex emotions verbally. Instead, they use play—their most natural form of expression—to tell their stories.

When we shift our perspective from “They’re just playing” to “They’re showing us what they need us to understand,” we begin to appreciate the depth and power of the therapeutic process.

💛 Play isn’t a break from the work.
💛 Play is the work.
